Backyard Wrestling: Don't Try This at Home PS2 Playstation 2
Backyard Wrestling games Based on the independently released "Best of *" video series, * the game features violent, over-the-top action designed to appeal to both hardcore wrestling fans as well as fighting enthusiasts. Players begin the game as a lowly wrestler trying to advance in the rankings to achieve the coveted title of The King of Hardcore. The career mode is more than simply defeating a rival, however, as there are specific objectives that must be completed along the way. This often involves using the environment to one's advantage.
This environment is the key element that separates * from others in the genre. Since wrestlers are no longer forced to do battle inside a confined ring, the action takes place within open, multi-tiered environments featuring a wide assortment of interactive objects. Players can freely roam around the locales to explore new ways to harm their rival. This could mean leaping off ladders, rooftops, or cars to inflict damage as well as bludgeoning them with a street sign, baseball bat, or tire iron. Wrestlers can smash through houses, throw their opponent into a tree, and interact with pedestrians.

Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes the Neighborhood PS2 Playstation 2
Backyard Wrestling games * is about violent, amateur, hand-to-hand battles fought in everyday locations, with spontaneous action and unexpected results; this second game from Paradox Development and Eidos Interactive casts the player as the star of the show. Aspiring backyard champions create a custom character, who will battle his or her way through a slew of other contenders in the hope of winning a spot on an upcoming * pay-per-view event. The sequel boasts a new graphics engine, which can create more realistic background environments as well as better detailed characters and animations. It also has a new control scheme, intended to offer more precise command of a wrestler's moves without becoming too complex for the fast-paced action.
Like the original, * 2 is inspired by a home video series that features amateur athletes performing violent, "big-time wrestling" moves, outside the relative safety of the wrestling ring. Instead, these truly no-holds-barred competitions take place in trailer parks, burger joints, and of course, backyards. Not by any means to be confused with Humongous' Backyard series of sports games for younger players, Eidos' * is designed for mature gamers and it pulls no punches.
