He topped the chart with Pony Time and made the Top Ten with Limbo Rock, Popeye The Hitchhiker, Let's Twist Again and Slow Twistin (with Dee Dee Sharp), yet is forever associated with The Twist, which twice topped the singles chart. Oldies album Originally issued in 1958, Conway Twitty Sings was released in order to capitalize on the success of the single It's Only Make Believe, a chart topper on both sides of the Atlantic. That wasn't to be Conway's only hit either, with The Story Of My Love and Mona Lisa also making respectable appearances on the chart. Conway Twitty Sings was subsequently re-promoted in light of this continued success, with the album becoming something of a mini greatest hits package. Conway would go on to register 55 number one hits on the country chart, yet topped the pop chart only once, with It's Only Make Believe. When it was originally released, the general public were convinced it was Elvis Presley recording under an assumed name.
