| Giya Kancheli Giya Kanchelli: Little Ember CD (2008)
$11.35 These two highly compelling new compositions mirror impressions of both Western and Georgian sacred music without actually alluding to religion itself. Little Imber was commissioned for a festival in the deserted village of Imber - a former Military installation on England's Salisbury Plain and is the first site-specific work in Kancheli's oeuvre, whilst Amao Omi (the title translates as "Senseless war") was commissioned by the Nederlands Kamerkoor - a moving sound tapestry, underpinned by the subtle and supple playing of the Rascher Saxophone Quartet Written in 2003 and 2005 respectively, both Little Imber and Amao Omi are melancholic musings about the absurdity of war in conjunction with the power of beauty. Georgian composer, Giya Kancheli's tenth album on ECM New Series offers two recent large-scale choral works with unconventional instrumental forces.

| Gidon Kremer Piazzolla: El Tango, Etc / Gigon Kremer, Et Al CD (1997)
$13.19 Composer: Astor Piazzolla. Personnel: Gidon Kremer (violin); Odair Assad, Sergio Assad (guitar). The tangos are still quite powerful, despite the obvious lack of Piazzolla in the recordings, mainly due to the prowess of the bandoneon player recruited for the cause, but also very much due to the powerful violin playing by Kremer. The album is definitely in tribute to the leader of the nuevo tango, as the lengthy liner notes describe in three languages. All but four of the songs on the album are compositions by Piazzolla, but performed by Kremer and his group, along with Piazzolla's guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad. Despite the deceptive titling format on the CD, this is a CD by Latvian violinist Gidon Kramer, not featuring the playing of Astor Piazzolla.
