This first-ever recording of Rossini's penultimate opera for the Teatro San Carlo in Naples is given a top-notch interpretation by director Claudio Scimone, with Italian bass Lorenzo Regazzo singing the title role. Still following young Anna as she is torn between her true love and her duty to her father and country, the Secondo softens the score and adds a happy ending. Although the opera was written in 1820, this version incorporates the substantial changes Rossini instituted for its performance in Venice in 1822.
