Philadelphia Orchestra BiographyThe Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1991 by its music director and conductor Daniel Spalding with a vision to strive towards combining the great European chamber orchestra tradition with the extraordinary virtuosity of some of the finest musicians on the East Coast of the USA. Known for innovative programming and engaging pereformances, Daniel spalding and the pVCO made their debut at New York's Lincoln Center (1996) and Carnegie Hall (1998) and th they have performed on major tours throughout the United States and South America, with over 50 concerts during the 1998-99 season. The PVCO has recorded several compact discs to high acclaim, with one receiving a pre-Grammy nomination.
Daniel Spalding and the PVCO has recently recorded the music of American composer George Antheil for the Naxos American Classics Series (including Ballet mechanique), which is due for release in 2001. Future plans for the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra include another extensive tour in the USA, appearance at the Bermuda Festival, and tours in Spain, Brazil and Argentina, all in 2001.
