| Love That Whirls (Diary Of A Thinking Man) Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) No La belle et la Bete This could have been 100% pefect had they included the mindblowingly ahead of it's time soundtack, "La Belle et la Bete" which is the way it was originally released Submitted by Lee (Seattle WA) Was This Review Helpful? Totally unique Nelson had been trying to perfect electronic Pop music since Drastic Plastic (the final Be Bop album), through Red Noise and his early solo works. Here, he succeeded (ruining the subsequent explosion of electropop and rave for me as nothing could live up to a masterpiece like Empire Of The Senses).
I agree wholeheartedly with the other posters here - you must hear this album. Submitted by Chris (Brighton, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Own This Or Be A Boob Since the 80's, I've been quite the Bill Nelson fan. About a decade later, I had the great fortune of seeing Bill perform live at a record store in NYC when "New Moons And Laughing Guitars" came out.
I try and turn as many people as I can on to Bill. I start with "The Love That Whirls", then work backwards a bit with Bee Bop Deluxe and then forward at top speed. I actually used this album as inspiration when composing a thesis on a fairy tale called "Beauty And The Beast" when I was in college. Bill provides head music that ignites your ability to recieve information. Sounds crazy right? But it's true.
As other reviewers have mentioned, this man is a genius and I have nothing but tremendous respect for his great body of work. I think I own all of it. However, with Bill, there always seems to be an ever-ellusive recording out there that is highly coveted.
Buy this CD. You'll thank Bill and then the Gods for designing his gift to music. Submitted by mojopo (Planet Claire, Earth) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Finally! The Masterpiece Reissued and re-released! It's about time!
The Love That Whirls (Diary Of A Thinking Heart) is one of the greatest albums ever recorded in my opinion. This album convinced me that Bill Nelson is a musical genius. On this album you will hear a mix of synth-pop, electro-funk, new wave-ish rock, ambient, and other nameless brilliance. Some of it tinged with an oriental flavor. This music is like nothing you will ever hear anywhere else.
Along with the original songs that were on the Cocteau release from 1982, the songs
Flesh, He And Sleep Were Brothers, Haunting In My Head, Hope For The Heartbeat (remix) and the instrumental The Passion. Some of which were featured on the EP Flaming Desire And Other Passions.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...Bill Nelson is a genius and it's too bad the world doesn't even know it. Submitted by T.M.7.7. (New Jersey, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Bill Is One Of The Best ! This cd by Bill Nelson is one of my all time favorite cd's..I agree with the other reviewer that the world does not even know who he is...but those who do, know how great he is. I own over 50 cd's on him. Submitted by RBellino (Brooklyn, New York, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD, The Chills' 18-track compilation culled from The Chills early and mid-'80s EPs and singles, is highlighted by the song "Pink Frost."
The Chills' Martin Phillipps mixes up melodic pop with elements of garage rock and punk, creating songs with a sweet melancholy all their own. Phillipps has always been the focus of the Chills, writing and singing the band's songs. His group has also rivaled Menudo in its sheer number of personnel changes. In a just world, the Chills would have sold just as many records.
KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD showcases the shifting line-ups and many moods of the early to mid-'80s Chills. "Rolling Moon" captures a mood of shambling joy, its simple, repeated keyboard riff sounding like a distant caravan crossing New Zealand's big-sky country. "Pink Frost" is undoubtedly one of the Chills' two or three finest songs, an eerie tale of finding one's lover dead and being stricken with waves of icy panic. Phillipps's ghostly voice floats over glacial, plucked chords, its elegance and restraint only adding to the menace. "I Love My Leather Jacket" could have been written for the wake of "Pink Frost'"s dead lover. The Chills' pumped-up fuzz guitars and a celebratory chorus of "I love my leather jacket/I love my absent friend" turn a song of loss ...

Love That Whirls (Diary Of A Thinking Man) album
$12.15 Conceived during the Japanese leg of the BOUNCE tour, THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT went from mere acoustic re-workings of Bon Jovi hits to an entirely restructured approach, aided by producer Patrick Leonard and turned around in a mere 23 days. The results are a dozen songs literally reborn as practically brand new compositions, thanks to the use of some unique arrangements.
"Livin' On a Prayer" gets basted with ethereal keyboard washes by David Bryan, while Leonard's actress wife, Olivia d'Abo, hops aboard and turns the song into a heartfelt duet. Plugged-in anthem "Keep the Faith" gets a nice twist, as its hard-pounding tempo is cast aside in favor of a subtle and soulful delivery, while Tico Torres' time keeping and the band's overall approach to "Wanted Dead or Alive" make it sound like a LED ZEPPELIN III outtake. Richie Sambora's deft wielding of his acoustic guitar can't be praised enough, particularly on "You Give Love a Bad Name," where his sharp slide playing ...
