Permanent Waves album for sale Product Description

Permanent Waves album for sale by Rush was released May 06, 1997 on the Mercury label. Falling somewhere in between heavy metal and AOR, Rush were one of the success stories of the period from 1976 to 1986--all the more surprising because few Canadians manage to break out from the land of the maple leaf in this area of music. Much of their following idolized Alex Lifeson, who was a guitar hero with the technical ability of a Page or a Beck. Permanent Waves CD music contains a single disc with 6 songs.   ...See Full Description

8 Track Gold by Rush, now on CD!
I have an Eight Track of "Permanent Waves" by Rush (I'm 16 yrs old and like old stuff) I just have to let the whole tape play all the way through without stopping it or skipping tracks because this is my favorite album of any artist, I also have to play it very loud to.

For ANY rock fan...
I disagree with the previous review. Permanent Waves was the perfect marriage of their earlier rock roots and their keyboard future.

MAKE THIS ALBUM 5 STARS!!!
This album is far more, the best Rush album of the 80's era. It may not have many synthesizer sounds, but with Alex Lifeson's guitar solos, it bings the songs to "Life." Keep Rushing everyone!

By far one of there best CDs
My first cassete of Rush was this gem, I heard "Freewill" on the radio and I was hooked from then on, this CD rocks from beginning to end, "Entre Nous" is a beautiful song, great melody and great lyrics, "Spirit of the Radio" of course is the CDs signature song, opening with this was a perfect move on the record companies part, after this one they all just fall in line, I still have the original cassette I bought in 1980, it still sounds as good as the day I bought it....

The big time/the big money.
Canadian superstar prog-rockers Rush have the knack of re-inventing themselves to stay ahead in the music biz and avoid being likened to a certain type of lizard that roamed the Earth 50 million years ago, and this is the album that started their reincarnation.

This band will always bring back good memories what i think were better times. I was too young to grasp Rush in the 70's but once this album came out i got the chance to sit down and hear why Rush were cool.

For completists only:
The airplay singles were 'Spirit of', and 'Freewill', both have decent lyrics, and were liked by general rock listeners. 'Jacobs', and 'Natural' are the two progressive tracks, both are quite good, but non-essential for prog-rock fans.

This was the second Rush Album I bought after 2112. It is a great album, but could do without Different Strings, which is why I had to give this album 4 stars.

Whoever wrote this description for CD Universe shows some serious lack of knowledge about what they are talking about... few Canadian bands break out... for crying out loud there are TONS of great Canadian bands that have "broken out"!! Meathead.

My all-time favorite!!!!
I discovered RUSH when I was twelve years old when I first heard "Tom Sawyer" play on the radio. That song and "Moving Pictures" completely rocked! Going to the music store I found what I consider to be the best of their albums; "Permanent Waves".

Permanent Waves CD music 2112 is archetypal high-concept heavy/art-rock, featuring an interconnected suite of songs and a futuristic science fiction-inspired lyrical theme (courtesy of drummer/sole lyricist Neil Peart). When it came to '70s sci fi rock epics these guys were capable of giving Hawkwind and Jefferson Starship a run for their money. The first half of the album features "2112" proper, a series of interrelated tunes that paint a portrait of a 1984/Brave New World-style future, where music and emotion are outlawed. Ultimately, our hero discovers a guitar and uses it to fight the powers that be, all to the accompaniment of vaguely Led Zeppelin-derived heavy rock riffs and daunting time signatures. The final five tunes are unrelated to the concept piece but continue in a similar musical vein, though a little balladry is mixed in towards the end. Lyricists: Geddy Lee; Alex Lifeson; Neil Peart. Personnel: Geddy Lee (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Alex Lifeson (guitar); Hugh Syme (keyboards); Neil Peart (drums, percussion). Recording information: Toronto Sound Studios, Toronto, Canada. Photographers: Gérard Gentil; Yosh Inouye. Arrangers: Rush Brown; Rush; Terry Brown.

Permanent Waves buy CD music MOVING PICTURES is the intersection between Rush's '70s art-rock style and their sequencer-laced '80s efforts. An incredible stylistic leap for the band, the songs here incorporate reggae, percolating synth and even a new wave-tinged early '80s pop sensibility. "Tom Sawyer," the ultimate alienated-teen saga, is the album's best known song. "Red Barchetta" picks up where 2112 left off with futuristic, sci fi-oriented lyrics. The instrumental "YYZ" is as far into straight-up progressive rock as the band had ever ventured. Things get socio-political on the ominous "Witch Hunt," and a Jamaican flavor enlivens "Vital Signs." The increased reliance on synthesizers and sequencers would later become irksome to old school Rush fans, but on MOVING PICTURES, electronics are tastefully applied to further the group's musical vision, making for what just might be their finest batch of songs. Recorded at Le Studio, Quebec, Canada in October & November 1980. Personnel: Geddy Lee (vocals, guitar, keyboards, synthesizer, mini-Moog synthesizer, Moog synthesizer, Oberheim synthesizer, bass guitar); Alex Lifeson (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric 12-string guitar, 12-string guitar); Hugh Syme (keyboards, synthesizer); Neil Peart (glockenspiel, drums, bass drum, cowbells, timbales, bells, crotales, chimes, wind chime). Permanent Waves songs Rush began life as a power trio in the Led Zeppelin/heavy rock mode. Over the years the band refined their musical vision as they gained both instrumental and conceptual facility. 1978's HEMISPHERES marks their transition from heavy riff-mongers to full blown art-rockers. Lee, Lifeson and Peart employ a number of tricks from the prog-rock bag here; (very) extended songs, multi-part suites, long instrumental passages, rapidly shifting tempos and time signatures, complicated unison riffs and synthesizer orchestrations. It's to Rush's credit that these elements enhance their sound instead of obscuring it. In fact, "La Villa Strangiato" would become one of the band's best-loved '70s efforts and a long-standing concert favorite. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Recorded at Rockfield Studios, Wales between June & July 1978. Rush: Geddy Lee (vocals, synthesizers, bass); Alex Lifeson (guitar); Neil Peart (drums, percussion).

Permanent Waves album for sale Taking a cue from other art-rock groups like Yes and Genesis, Rush expressed a penchant for fantasy and science fiction themes on A FAREWELL TO KINGS. Coupling the increasingly intricate arrangements of Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson with the creative lyrics of Neil Peart, the power trio format is stretched beyond recognition on epic tracks like the sensational "Xanadu," a masterful re-telling of Kubla Kahn's "Pleasure Dome" along the river Alph. KINGS also introduced a more lyrical side of the group with "Closer To The Heart," a work of sheer beauty that would become a concert mainstay. The lesser-known rocker "Cinderella Man" and the graceful "Madrigal" offer creative tangents that explore the mysteries of the human psyche and emotions. The grand finale is a work of magnificent complexity and fantasy known as "Cygnus X-1." This multi-part suite introduces an unnamed space traveler who descends into a mysterious black hole in his rocket ship, the "Rocinante," to an uncertain end. The character would later emerge to star in the group's follow-up album, HEMISPHERES. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Recorded at Rockfield Studios, Wales in June 1977. Personnel: Geddy Lee (vocals, guitar, 12-string guitar, organ, keyboards, synthesizer, bass guitar); Alex Lifeson (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric 12-string guitar); Neil Peart (drums, cowbells, temple blocks, triangle, tubular bells, vibraslap, bells, chimes). Audio Mixer: Terry Brown. Recording information: Rockfield Studios, Wales (06/1977). Photographers: Yosh Inouye; Fin Costello. Unknown Contributor Roles: Bob King ; Alex Lifeson; Neil Peart. Permanent Waves CD music Rush's sophomore release FLY BY NIGHT has become a milestone in their recording career. Although such future releases as 2112, HEMISPHERES, PERMANENT WAVES, and MOVING PICTURES would be superior albums, FLY BY NIGHT signaled a change from Led Zep blues-rock to more original and challenging material. But most important of all, FLY BY NIGHT was drummer/lyricist Neil Peart's first recording with the band. Peart had replaced original member John Rutsey just in time for Rush's inaugural U.S. tour, and became an integral member by the time of FLY BY NIGHT's recording. Several early Rush classics can be found here. "Anthem" is a barnstorming opener merging a memorable, repetitive guitar riff with positive lyrics, while the title track is one of Rush's most pop-oriented compositions (second only to future hits "Closer To the Heart" and "Time Stand Still"). Also included are two tracks which turned out to be crowd favorites at Rush concerts for years to come- -the sci-fi epic "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" and the rocking ballad "In the End," while other highlights include "Beneath, Between, Behind" and the reflective "Making Memories." With FLY BY NIGHT, Rush had begun their journey towards becoming one of the world's finest hard rock bands. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Recorded at Toronto Sound Studios, Toronto, Canada. Personnel: Geddy Lee (vocals, guitar, classical guitar, keyboards, bass guitar); Alex Lifeson (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, 12-string guitar); Neil Peart (drums, percussion). Permanent Waves buy CD music Making the transition from the heavy-rocking '70s to the synthesizer-driven '80s, the power trio Rush embraced the new technology with open arms. After the 1981 smash album MOVING PICTURES, Rush decided to lead their cult of loyal fans down a slightly different musical route while continuing to maintain their high level of expertise. The result, SIGNALS, was a very unique album for the group and ushered in an era that focused their sound toward keyboard-centered orchestrations and tight, stylized arrangements. The driving opener "Subdivisions" is a powerful depiction of the sometimes bleak outlook of suburban life. The special effects of "Chemistry" and the shuffling "Digital Man" take on a futuristic slant befitting the group's new synthesizer-based sound. The most creative use of the technology comes with the mysterious "The Weapon," one of the group's darkest compositions. A more typical song is the up-beat "New World Man" which showcases the trio's strengths on top of a sequenced computer track. The grand finally comes with a very realistic description of the launch of NASA's space shuttle on the programmatic "Countdown." Recorded at Le Studio, Quebec, Canada between April & July 1982. Rush: Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neal Peart. Lyricists: Geddy Lee; Alex Lifeson; Neil Peart.
