September 18, 1983 is a day that will go down in Kisstory. It was then that Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and replacement members Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr took off their signature makeup and revealed themselves on MTV. LICK IT UP was released, and a new chapter unfolded.
Using the same production team as CREATURES OF THE NIGHT, Michael James Jackson, Simmons and Stanley came up with the same bone crunching sound as CREATURES, but with a slightly more polished feel. "Exciter" kicks off the album with a machine gun riff, which leads into Gene Simmons proclaiming he's "Not For The Innocent". The title track was a modest hit in the U.S., faired better in the U.K. and made for quite an entertaining video. "All Hell's Breakin' Loose" is a gritty streetwise track where Paul Stanley actually raps! "And On The 8th Day" is a powerful anthem that closes an exciting album.
With Vinnie Vincent's expert guitar playing and songwriting abilities (he co-wrote 8 out of the 10 tracks) and Eric Carr's powerful backbeat, LICK IT UP proves that behind all the explosions and firebreathing, the band can deliver the goods musically.

when kiss was struggling to get back on top they needed help. vinnie wrote 90% of this album and when it sold millions he asked for more money and they dropped him, he deserved it. gene and paul are just greedy. they haven't done anything nearly as good as this since, oh ya a couple good tunes on revenge. who helped them out with this, vinnie. his best quality is that he can write good music, sure he is a good guitar player but it doesn't compare to his songwriting capabilities. shame on you gene and paul.

 One of the best
I have heard KISS for many years, but this title is one of the best, the band has made. it´s been 15 years listening it, and I don`t get tired of listening it.

One of the best KISS CD's of the '80s period
Any true KISS fan should own this. The best songs on the CD include exciter, lick it up, young and wasted, all hell's breakin' loose, and a million to one.

This is easily the best album Kiss made after they took off the makeup. Not one bad song- Gene's songs are particularly strong (Not For The Innocent, Young and Wasted, etc). This along with Creatures of the Night and Revenge is their heaviest album, but with better songs. The performances are strong throughout. "A Million to One" is one of Paul's stronger ballads. It's too bad things didn't work out with Vinnie Vincent, because they never made an album this good after his departure.

this album just rocks. not for the innocent is one of the best kiss songs. vinnie was way too talented for this band, he wrote 90% of the album. it sold millions and he asked for some cash and gene and paul those greedy jews said se ya. if it wasn't for that than we wouldn't maybe have hear vinnie on his own, that would have been a bummer. good job vinnie
