This DVD feature film documents the story of three student filmmakers who disappeared in the woods of Maryland when ex ploring the Blair Witch Myth.
Made for $30,000 by two young filmmakers from Florida, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT wowed festival audiences for several months before finding distribution at the 1999 Sundance Festival. It is an ingenious creation which makes effective use of its lack of budget and cast of unknowns. The film is composed entirely of reportedly "found" footage shot by three missing college students who made a journey to the woods of Western Maryland in 1994 with the purpose of making a documentary about a "witch" of local legend who is linked to murders and mysterious occurrences spanning 200 years. It begins with footage of the crew leaving their homes and testing their equipment, but before we know it, they are lost deep in the endless woods, with the voices of screaming children piercing the blackness from off in the distance. Things get worse from there. The experience is disorienting and frightening as well as the most rewarding horror film experience to come along in many years, as it wisely chooses to prey on our vulnerable imaginations rather than bombard us with graphic images.
Blair Witch Project Quotes/Excerpts:
"No redneck is this creative!"
- Michael to his fellow travellers upon finding yet another creepy sign in the woods.
"Do we have any weed?"
- Heather, to Michael and Josh, during the night of revelry before their trek.

BEST HORROR MOVIE EVER TO BE MADE. This Movie gets 5 stars from me pure and simple. It is 100% genius and there is NO horror movie whatsoever and never will compare to the blair witch project. It is very well acted and I mean very well. It looks and feels so real and what makes it genius is the fact that a couple of cameras and 3 people in the woods can make a film so chilling, scary and so genuine.
This film will go down in history as been the BEST EVER HORROR movie of all Time. Submitted by Steve/Film& Music reviewer. (U.K. England.) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
One of the most realistic horror movies ever This is truly a scary classic. If you allow yourself to buy into the premise, you will have a frightening experience. The Blair Witch Project plays on our most basic childhood fears. The horror goes from benign to subtle at first, but builds to a panicked and shocking conclusion. The people who saw this movie early on and were tricked into believing it was a real documentary, must have been terrified. THE DEFINITIVE 90'S HORROR FILM The Blair Witch Project is an intelligent cinematic experience. I was shocked at how much this movie was able to scare me. This film was made with only a budget of $30 000 and has become the most profitable movie in history. It has a very realistic feel and great naturalistic acting from Heather and her 2 documentary partners. The Blair Witch Project will go down as one of the scariest movies ever made and is one of the most chilling films since The Exorcist (1973) or even Psycho (1960). It garners on suspense and combines a perfect blend of struggle and helplessness with horror. I still get chills when I watch it. The ending of the film is without a doubt the scariest ending in any horror film I’ve ever watched. I highly advice this film for anybody who appreciates the art of horror. brilliant the director states that we are scared of what we can't see, and this movie portrays it all, its bloody brilliant! Submitted by nori_aka_loser (fresno, ca, usa) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
One word: "WOW" I originally saw this in the theater. At first I thought I had wasted my money, but as the movie progressed I found myself getting pulled in little by little. By the end I was ready to stand up and cheer. What a breath of fresh air for the horror genre! Genuinely terrifying without splatter, what a concept! This is old school horror - what you don't see is much scarier than what you do. The whole premise of the film is one of the most original I've seen in years. The kids actually built their lack of budget into the fabric of the film. This movie would not be anywhere near as good from a class "A" studio with big-name actors. Not to mention one of the most brilliant marketing schemes in recent history - I never saw a single commercial but I was hearing about this "real" video that was "found" long before the movie came to my town. Genius! Submitted by Joe (Pennsylvania) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
