In a post-apocalyptic, totally anarchic America, circa 2013, a defector from the ranks of murderous despot General Bethlehem masquerades as a representative of the good old U.S. Postal Service. But his ruse so delights the weary, oppressed people he meets that it indeed becomes real--and he finds himself championing their rights and the American Way. Adapted from the novel by David Brin.
Although the film was not a critical or commercial hit when it was first released, Kevin Costner told the New York Daily News in late 2000, "I loved making THE POSTMAN. I understand they're showing it in school now to illustrate mythic heroes. Does it attach itself to me like some blemish? That's just cute journalism. I love that movie the way [Frank] Capra loved IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE."

Best of Costners Worst Movies Costner is not one of my favorite actors, being both flat and uninteresting. That being said this is one of his most watchable movies due to the story itself. A scam twisted into a message of hope for the new world? Unlikely, but and exciting possibility. Will Patton is a brilliant, captivating, multidimensional "bad guy", a refreshing change from the paper thin baddies we usually see. His performance ran right over Costner and Patton commandeers the camera in every scene he's in. The romance sub plot is ridiculous. But, all in all, this is a pretty good movie made all the better by Will Patton. Submitted by mam_ak2000 (Fairbanks, Alaska) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
My favorite Costner Movie Saw the movie, then read the book, the movie strayed a little, but i really enjoyed it, being a "mailman" in real life, it illistrated how one of the oldest gov. agency is what ties people together, and how the "mailman" is one of the few gov. employees the people trust and believe in. Its a movie i can see over and over and get more out of it. Submitted by annygrny (Loyalton, Ca. 96118) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful. $15.69 Quentin Tarantino returns to the crime genre once again with this adaptation of Elmore Leonard's RUM PUNCH. Transplanting Leonard's crime story from Miami to Tarantino's city of choice, Los Angeles, JACKIE BROWN cruises along smoothly, much like the film's 1970s soul soundtrack. The film follows Jackie Brown (Pam Grier), a flight attendant who makes extra cash by running drugs and cash for sleazebag Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). When Jackie sees the opportunity to make off with a large chunk of change, she begins to play everyone around her, including two detectives who are threatening her with jail time if she doesn't rat out Ordell, and a sympathetic bail bondsman (Robert Forster) who finds himself falling for Jackie.

$10.45 Former video store clerk Quentin Tarantino's directorial debut, RESERVOIR DOGS, is a brutally funny, supercharged introduction to his supremely distinct cinematic vision, which was later to become one of the most mimicked styles of the 1990s. Mastermind Joe Cabot (Lawrence Tierney) assembles a crew of top-notch criminals to pull off a jewelry store heist. As the film opens it becomes immediately clear that the plan backfired, forcing the survivors, who have gathered at an abandoned warehouse, to figure out if one of them is, in fact, a police informer. The crew--Mr. White (Harvey Keitel), an aged veteran; Mr. Orange (Tim Roth), a wounded newcomer; Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen), a psychopathic parolee; Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi), a bickering weasel; and Nice Guy Eddie (Chris Penn), Joe's son--begin to unravel ...

$6.95 Richard Loncraine's WIMBLEDON is a lighthearted romantic comedy set in the high-pressure world of professional tennis. Peter Colt (Paul Bettany) is a 31-year-old Englishman who was once ranked 11th in the world, but has now dropped to a pathetic 119th. Realizing that his days are numbered, Peter intends to retire from the game after playing in one final Wimbledon. But when he accidentally walks into the hotel room of rising American star Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst), sparks begin to fly and Peter begins to find his touch on the court once again. Unfortunately for Peter, Lizzie's overbearing father, Dennis (Sam Neill), is well aware that Lizzie's game suffers when she is distracted by love, and he bans the two from seeing each other. This doesn't bode well for Peter, who is about to play in the final against cocky American superstar Jake Hammond (Austin Nichols). $10.65 Destined to be a Christmas classic, Thomas Bezucha's dazzling dramedy, THE FAMILY STONE, manages to be both warmhearted and sentimental while possessing a razor-sharp hilarious mean streak. The fairly conventional story centers on Sarah Jessica Parker's uptight career woman, Meredith, and her run-in with the eponymous Stone family. With her permanently pursed lips and severe bun, SJP looks and acts the anti-Carrie Bradshaw here as, armed with cell phone and business-suit collection, she gears up to meet her fiance's oddball family, a tight-knit, colorful clan who border on bohemian. Matriarch Sybil (Diane Keaton) and patriarch Kelly (Craig T. Nelson) are a loving couple whose diverse children are affectionate and respectful. When Meredith's humorless aura infects the homestead, it is mom Sybil and sister Amy (Rachel ...
