This film is the suspenseful re-creation of the chain of mysterious events that led to the destruction of the Hindenburg. An all-star cast adroitly play the various roles of the passengers who boarded the ill-fated dirigible in 1937. Academy Award Nominations: 3, including Best Cinematography. An all-star cast highlights THE HINDENBURG, an imaginative, stylish suspense thriller that attempts to shed light on the 1937 disaster of the Nazi blimp that exploded over New Jersey, killing 36 people on board. In the intricately woven plot, Colonel Ritter (George C. Scott), assisted by Nazi partisan Martin Vogel (Roy Thinnes), is assigned by the German government to make certain no one sabotages the Hindenburg on its way to New York. Ritter suspects everyone on board, even his good friend, a German countess (Anne Bancroft) who is vehemently opposed to the Nazi regime. Also on board are card sharks Emilio Pajetta (Burgess Meredith) and Major Napier (Rene Auberjonois), who spend the voyage trying to fleece gullible passengers. Then there is Edward Douglas (Gig Young), a nervous German-American ad executive, as well as several suspicious crew members and the stoic cocaptains Pruss (Charles Durning) and Lehmann (Richard A. Dysart). Based on the novel by Michael M. Mooney and meticulous in its realistic details and props, Robert Wise's THE HINDENBURG also combines actual newsreel footage of the blimp's explosion with footage shot for the movie to create one of the most beautiful and riveting moments in film history. $8.69 John Woo raises the action bar in this violent, romantic sequel to Brian De Palma's 1996 original. Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, this time battling wits with rogue IMF agent Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott). Hunt is ordered to recruit Ambrose's former lover, Nyah Hall (Thandie Newton), to infiltrate his hideout. But Hunt never expected to fall for the lovely young thief he must use for bait. The romantic triangle that ensues gives the film a unique emotional balance that is unusual (and most welcome) for an action picture. Ambrose is after the killer Chimera virus and its antidote, Bellerophon; in the old days Ambrose would have been after world domination, but in this new world order of day trading and Internet stocks, all he wants is to corner the market and make a fortune.
Woo outdoes even himself with a flurry of martial-arts fights, fiery shootouts, thrilling mountain climbing, and blazing motorcycle chases that lead from the beautiful peaks of Utah through the busy streets of Sydney. All of this is set to a booming hard-rock soundtrack that battles with the explosions and blasting guns for ear space. And he doesn't fail to include his trademark birds fluttering like peaceful interludes in the most threatening of moments.
Soundtrack English; Amaray Case

$16.79 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN: Director Ridley Scott confronts hundreds of years of religious conflict in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. An epic film set in Europe and the Middle East, the story follows one man's struggle to better himself and the world around him. Orlando Bloom stars as Balian, a French blacksmith who is mourning the deaths of his wife and baby when his estranged nobleman father (Liam Neeson) arrives and asks him to join the Crusades in Jerusalem. Mindful that conducting the Lord's work will help him atone for his sins, Balian agrees, and embarks on the perilous journey. Along the way, he reveals his gifts of inherent goodness and fair treatment of all human beings. Upon reaching Jerusalem, a city where his meager beginnings no longer matter, Balian earns respect and fealty, while the evil Guy de Lusignan (Marton Csokas) looks down his aristocratic nose at the former laborer.
As he did in GLADIATOR, Scott explores the theme of a man who chooses his fate, instead of accepting the fate given to him at birth. Balian comes to life in Jerusalem, protecting the weak and defenseless as his father told him he must, and catching the eye of the beautiful Princess Sibylla (Eva Green), unhappily married to de Lusignan. Scott paints a stirring portrait of the struggle over Jerusalem among Christians, Jews, and Muslims. In doing so, he also shows the passionate fight for religious freedom. KINGDOM OF HEAVEN ably handles these delicate issues, effectively treating characters from all factions as individuals and not as stereotypes. By placing a virtuous man at the center of this conflict, Scott creates a powerful, universal story.
CRUSADERS: An Italian made-for-TV movie with high production values, CRUSADERS is the exciting tale of three friends who find themselves torn apart by the wars of the 11th century. When Pope Urban II calls for a Christian war against the Saracens, Peter (Alessandro Gassman), Andrew (Thure Riefenstein), and Richard (Johannes Brandrup) join the Crusaders in order to see the Holy Land of Jerusalem, which the Saracens now occupy. The three come from very different backgrounds: Peter is a humble bell founder, Andrew is a shepherd, and Richard is the very religious son of the wealthy Baron William of Aurocastro. The friends are alienated by the violent methods of the Crusaders; Richard and Peter desert, while Andrew stays on. The two friends join the beautiful young Jewish woman, Rachel (Barbora Bobulova), on her way to Jerusalem, but once there, Richard is arrested, and Peter must feign allegiance to the Saracens in order to save him. Eventually, the three friends find themselves on different sides of the war, and all in love with the same woman--Rachel.
