This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by Gonzo. LIMELIGHT is also an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Perfectly fitting one of the most famous dance clubs in the world, a place where celebrities and club-mavens go to see and be seen and (occasionally) dance to music, Limelight resident Gonzo's 2001 mix is highly stylized and heavily clichéd. The 70-minute set includes a bare 13 tracks of sleek, driving trance music, each one including several percussion breakdowns plus the usual echoey, pinpoint-precise melody lines used in most progressive trance. Production highlights come from D.A.V.E. the Drummer ("Hydraulix"), Ralph Fridge ("Mystery"), and Warp Brothers ("We Will Survive"). A bonus second disc adds footage of the Limelight (including a self-congratulatory tour and live excerpt, plus interviews with DJs Gonzo and Corbett). ~ John Bush

| | Only Doo-Wop Collection You'll Ever Need CDs (2005)
Limelight CD music
$17.05 Don't let the title fool you; after listening to The Only Doo-Wop Collection You'll Ever Need, you'll definitely want more. This is a good starting point for the curious, since all the basics are here in the original hit versions: "The Great Pretender," "Earth Angel," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight," and, thrown in for good measure, a few tracks that even vocal group scholars wouldn't mind hearing again by the Marvelows, the Duprees, the Jive Five, and the Earls. While this is an excellent primer, the best ...
| | Best Of Little Anthony & The Imperials CD (1989)
Limelight music CDs
$8.39 One of the foremost doo-wop groups of the late1950s and early '60s, Little Anthony & the Imperials enjoyed a succession of hits with classic rock & roll era songs like "Tears on My Pillow," "Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop," and "So Much," all of which combined lead singer Anthony Gourdine's distinctive falsetto vocals with the group's sophisticated ...
| | Maxwell Now CD (2001)
Limelight songs
$8.85 "Lifetime" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Rebounding from the slight sophomore lag generated by 1998's EMBRYA, Maxwell's follow-up NOW abandons the neo-soul man's usual M.O. of using a conceptual arc of songs, and instead focuses on individual cuts. Romance remains the main ingredient found in this Brooklyn native's banquet of song, and although he stands firmly in the neo-soul camp of D'Angelo and Erykah, his use of various stylistic nuances once again stamps him as an original item. Twangy country-flavored licks and subtle DJ scratches pop up throughout the lament "Was My Girl," and scratchy rock guitar riffs are sparingly used over the heavy groove of "Temporary Nite." At the centerpiece is a studio version of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work," a staple of Maxwell's concerts previously showcased on the live 1997 EP UNPLUGGED. Delivered with a crystalline falsetto, delicate strings and subtle pedal steel, it's a daring move worthy of Prince-ly accolades.
Elsewhere, Maxwell easily moves between sly funk (a percolating "Get To Know Ya") and sleek, between-the-sheets posturing (the Isley Brothers-flavored "Changed"). Other highlights include the goosebump-inducing slow jam "For Lovers Only," chugging come-on "Lifetime," and irresistible end-of-album funk workout "Now/At The Party." NOW is a musical outing worthy of silk sheets and champagne.

| | Cowboy Junkies Rarities, B-Sides And Slow, Sad Waltzes CD (1999) Import
Limelight songs
$19.79 Rarities, B-sides and Slow, Sad Waltzes offers exactly what the liner notes promise: a hodgepodge of songs that were written and recorded for various albums and projects but that somehow ended up on soundtracks, tribute albums, or simply on demos that never left their rehearsal room before this release. Echoing the driving tone of more recent albums, the opener, "I Saw Your Shoes," establishes an electric, fast-paced beginning to the album -- appropriate for a song about desire, but something of a non sequitur given the track that follows, "Five Room Love Story." A Junkies fan will likely be able to distinguish certain other tracks as if they were intended for specific albums. "Leaving Normal," for example (written as a theme song for a film by the same name, but never used), lyrically recalls Pale Sun Crescent Moon's spoken-word "Floorboard Blues." "To Lay Me Down," a beautiful cover, compelling and moving in its stillness, was included on Deadicated: A Tribute to the Grateful Dead. The final, bonus (hidden) track, Bruce Springsteen's "My Father's House," offers listeners a peak into a rehearsal/soundcheck which turns into an a cappella, impromptu performance, capturing the band's characteristic sense of family and humor better than any of the other official tracks here. The album is, by definition, a brief jumble of contrasting periods in the band's evolution. As such, however, these "orphan" tracks are a treat to Junkies fans -- such a quantity of rarities and B-sides being put out during a band's active years, rather than posthumously, is a delightful rarity. ~ Deanne Briggs

| | Compadres James Keelaghan & Oscar Lopez Compadres CD (2007)
Limelight songs
$17.09 Oscar Lopez's Latin guitar groove has made him a standout on the world music scene. Never afraid to venture into different genres, Lopez easily incorporates jazz, blues, and even pop sensibilities into his music. For James Keelaghan the inspiration is boundless in the songs he collects or composes himself. Many of his songs are narratives and weave fascinating stories. James' vocals resonate with the passion of those stories. His guitar work is especially intricate and captivating. It is a wonderful occasion when these two individual soloists and multiple award-winning guitar players and friends team up in their special project known as The Compadres. The Compadres music takes you on a musical journey and ranges from instrumentals to heavenly harmonies to the highly danceable. Songs like 'Bump Me Up' and 'Lamentos' motivate you to dance in the same way as the Gypsy Kings. Then sit back and listen to tracks like 'Coast to Coast' and feel the passion in their music. 'The Kiss' takes you in another direction of folk and melody. Keelaghan and Lopez have been performing off and on as The Compadres since 1993. Their fist CD together in 1997 was a Juno nominated critics' favourite and the long overdue follow-up is sure to continue in that tradition. Their music together is described as 'celtino', a distinctive blend of Celtic and Latino flourishes that combine to create a new hybrid. The duo is 'a Canadian story, different cultures coming together to create something truly ...
