In 1993 an elite group of American Rangers and Delta Force soldiers are sent to Somalia on a critical mission to capture a violent warlord whose corrupt regime has led to the starvation of hundreds of thousands of Somalis. When the mission goes quickly and terribly wrong the men find themselves outnumbered and fighting for their lives. Rated R. Runtime: 144 minutes. On October 3, 1993, Army Rangers and members of the elite Delta Force participated in a covert operation in Mogadishu, Somalia that went horribly wrong. Sent to abduct two lieutenants of a vicious Somali warlord, the soldiers found themselves surrounded by hostile militia. Two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down and many men lost their lives. Mark Bowden of the Philadelphia Inquirer told the story of the battle in his exhaustively researched, critically acclaimed book, BLACK HAWK DOWN, and filmmaker Ridley Scott (GLADIATOR) and screenwriter Ken Nolan have done an amazing job of bringing the dramatic story to the screen. Like Bowden's book, the film does not thoroughly examine the context of the conflict, but gives a detailed and intense blow-by-blow account of the fighting. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Josh Hartnett as a competent but nervous Ranger sergeant leading his first mission, Ewan McGregor as a "desk jockey" who excels when sent into combat, Eric Bana (THE INCREDIBLE HULK) as a cocky and enigmatic Delta, and Ron Eldard as a downed Black Hawk pilot. Black Hawk Down Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)  Simply a Great Movie !!!
This movie most accurately portrays modern combat in an urban enviroment. The story is real and was untold for years. If you want to know what fighting in a third world country is like this movie is a prime example. The true heroism and camaraderie that is shown in this movie exsists everyday in our military,buts seems to go unnoticed. Thank you Ridley Scott for doing it right and showing how mighty the american fighting man is.
I have watched this movie many times with my friends and it never gets old.
I highly reccomend this to anyone interested in military action and who want to really know how it is when the brass starts flying.

Yes Yes Yes, so the story is simple but how much do you want to fictionalise in a non fiction documentary account of a terrible tragedy. Story aside the direction and in your face atrocity gives more than an adequate account that war is hell. Good acting, excellent direction and editing. DVD is good with many extras, great sound and crisp picture.

Great movie about great´and brave men
Well, this movie is a real fantastic work.
IIt shows up the battle fom "Mog" like it was.
There's nothing to say about. One has to watch it. I mean it's unbelievable and it inspired me to read the book.

I like this movie...it brings out the near truth of the of what happent down there,,
and the characters are well played. but some times its a bit to mucho..
