This set includes all 13 episodes and the 4-hour TV miniseries that started it all. Extras include deleted scenes, featurette, and commentary.
An updating and re-imagining of the classic 1970s sci-fi television show, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA combines elements of STAR TREK, STAR WARS, and THE TERMINATOR. Human beings built the android Cylons to work as servants for them, only to have the robots rebel and disappear into space. A generation later, however, the Cylons returned to destroy their former masters, and succeeded in eliminating the 12 worlds that mankind inhabited. Luckily, one group of people has managed to escape the genocide, lead by Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos), on board the massive space ship called Battlestar Galactica. But the struggle isn't over, as the ruthless Cylons continue to pursue the ship and the last surviving members of the human race. This vision of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA features a darker tone and CGI special effects, and shares with other science fiction sagas a warning about the misuse of advanced technology.
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete First Season Reviews:
5 stars out of 5 -- "GALACTICA is a thrilling and relevant post-apocalyptic vision of humanity at its lowest ebb..."-- David Richardson, Ultimate DVD
Awesome Very well directed and very good acting. And the special effects are crazy awesome. Submitted by beach_bum0913 (Riverside, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Fantastic Series I was a fan of the original series, watching the reruns on saturday afternoons growing up in the early '80's. When this modern updated remake of the original series was announced, first thoughts were if it would measure up to the original, Oh boy was I blown away with the acting, and story line. The drama is a bit more grittier, but it needed to be to express what the original series left out. My girlfriend, who is not a sci-fi fan loves this series, along with her 15 yr old daughter. To me, if they are impressed with this series, than it's got to be good!
Sci-Fi at it's best! Submitted by Evan E. (Salt Lake City, Utah, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
nothing short of amazing This show is one of the best sci-fi shows ever. Heck, it's one of the best shows ever period. Even people who don't like sci-fi will probably like this. It's a human drama that happens to be set in space. The political and religious themes are also compelling and relatable. The acting is also fantastic. Oh, right, I almost forgot...the hot chicks are a plus as well. I can't wait for the second season box set. Submitted by Stephen (San Marcos, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Soap Opera. I loved the original series and was hoping they'd make an updated version, like Star Trek kept doing.
I tried hard to watch this, and stuck with it for part of the first season, then gave up. It's just a soap opera trading on the name of a great former show.
It's a real shame, because the show's original concept is great, and if someone ever decides to make an updated Battlestar Galactica, along the lines Star Trek adhered to, I'll be the first one to follow it.
This thing currently is just a soap opera based in space.
If you've never seen the original series, buy it from CDU. Sure,a bit outdated, but better than this.
