While shooting a jungle movie on the remote Skull Island, filmmaker Denham and his crew stumble upon a prehistoric world populated by dinosaurs and giant snakes. The most dangerous and magnificent of all the unusual and exotic creatures is "King Kong," a fifty-foot gorilla. Using gas bombs, Denham subdues the beast and brings him to New York City, where Kong goes on a rampage, destroying everything in his past and kidnapping a beautiful young actress.

A masterpiece and one of the top moneymakers of the 1930s. Fortune-hunters travel to Skull Island in search of the fabled giant ape "King Kong." Enticing him with the lovely Fay Wray they capture him and bring him back to New York where he escapes and ransacks the city searching for her.

Theatrical release: March 2, 1933 (NY). KING KONG was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1991. The story originated with writer Edgar Wallace, who died before the film's 1933 release. Despite Kong's apparent death at the end of the 1933 classic, the tale of a giant ape set loose on the modern world has been retold many times since. The quickie sequel, SON OF KONG, was released in 1933 and shared director Ernest B. Schoedsack, special effects man Willis O'Brian and star Robert Armstrong with the first film. Armstrong joined Helen Mack and Victor Wong on a trip back to Skull Island, where they discover Kong's young son. In 1949, Schoedsack, O'Brian, and Armstrong went back to the well once more and retrieved MIGHTY JOE YOUNG, about another giant monkey. O'Brian shared effects duties with Ray Harryhausen this time out and Armstrong was joined in the cast by Terry Moore, Ben Johnson, Frank McHugh, and "Mr. Joseph Young." Japanese director Inoshira Honda produced a pair of mid-1960s KONG movies, KING KONG ESCAPES and KING KONG VS. GODZILLA. Dino de Laurentiis produced an extravagant and largely unsuccessful remake of KING KONG in 1976. It was directed by John Guillermin with effects by Rick Baker. Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, John Randolph, and Rene Auberjonois starred in the film, which also featured the film debut of model Jessica Lange. De Laurentiis and Guillermin also produced a 1986 sequel that was aptly titled KING KONG LIVES, which starred Brian Kerwin, Linda Hamilton, John Ashton, and Peter Michael Goetz. In this film, a pair of scientists find the resurrected gorilla a giant mate and battle those who would destroy the beast. Before KING KONG, Willis O'Brian worked on the 1925 film THE LOST WORLD. Based on the Arthur Conan Doyle tale, this silent classic tells the story of a group of scientists who stumble on a prehistoric world of dinosaurs and other presumably extinct creatures while on a museum outing. It was directed by Harry Hoyt and starred Bessie Love, Wallace Beery, and Lewis Stone. Disaster-movie king Irwin Allen produced a 1960 remake that starred Michael Rennie, Jill St. John, David Hedison, Claude Rains, Fernando Lamas, and Richard Haydn. Stop-motion animation was used to create the 50-foot Kong out of six 18-inch models. These models were constructed out of rubber and rabbit fur over a metal skeleton. For close-ups, the filmmakers created a full-scale hand and 20-foot model of Kong's head and shoulders and covered them in bear hides.

5 stars " It was Beauty that killed the Beast "
This is the last line of one of the greatest movies filmed. By, now, every one is most familiar with " Unrequited Love " and just how "Fatal " attraction can be. None says it best than this techncial marvel from the past. The acting is superb in respect that the characters give you a sense of them actually seeing the horrific monsters. Has technolgy improved sense this movie hit the screen? Yes, it has. But you will never get a better Scream Queen than Miss Wray, take a bow.

5 stars A Classic
This film was made in 1933 and shows unbelivable technical brilliance for a movie made back in that time. It is a great story which shows that even monsters like King Kong fall in love. It's a typical beauty and the beast type story which has great significance on the audience. It is considered as one of the greatest movies of all time and was voted in the list of the American Film Institutes greatest films. King Kong has tried to be duplicated and copied so many times, but the original never seems to be topped. It stands alone and it's truly a classic film which is still talked about today. OWN THIS DVD

5 stars The greatest!
"King Kong" is a contender for the greatest film ever made... adventure, romance, horror... it has it all in an extremely well paced and visually exciting (even to this day) movie. Forget Jackson's computer-game of a re-make... the orginal stands as the unchallenged classic. "Scream Ann! Scream for your life!!"

A classic of Japanese sci-fi, THE MYSTERIANS combines the alien invasion and kaiju (giant monster) sub-genres. When the military investigates the puzzling disappearance of an entire village, they uncover the culprit, an enormous robot. They also encounter the alien Mysterians, who have left their own decimated planet seeking asylum on Earth. All they ask is a portion of land...and some Earth women to repopulate their species! Incensed, the people of Earth declare war on the Mysterians, which leads to the revelation of the aliens' sinister secrets. However, Earth stands little chance against the technologically advanced beings unless a group of scientists can come up with a super weapon to use against them. THE MYSTERIANS was the first widescreen and color film made by the Toho studio, and was directed by Ishiro Honda, who directed many kaiju and sci-fi films, including the first GODZILLA. Among the many highlights is an acclaimed score by Akira Ifukabe. Standard Screen; Soundtrack English

The boozing, smoking, cussing captain of a tramp steamer, Charlie Allnut, saves prim and proper Rose Sayer after her brother is killed by German soldiers at the beginning of World War I in Africa. Many quarrels later, the two set sail on the Ulonga-Bora in order to sabotage a German ship. Based on the 1935 novel by C.S. Forester, the wonderful combination of Hepburn and Bogie (who won an Oscar) makes this a thoroughly enjoyable blend of comedy and adventure. Later came the book (and Clint Eastwood film) White Hunter, Black Heart, which chronicled Peter Viertel's experiences observing Huston throughout the making of the picture. NTSC/Region 0. Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn star in one of the greatest motion pictures of all-time, The African Queen directed by John Huston. Bogart won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Charlie Allnut, a hard drinking river trader who offers to take Rose (Hepburn), the sister of a murdered missionary, from the remains of her destroyed village back to civilization. They encounter an adventure together that leads to romance. The African Queen was nominated for five Oscars in 1951 (Bogart was the only winner) and won for Best Film at the British Academy Awards. It has also been called one of the greatest films of all time by critics throughout the decades. For over half a century, this film still deserves every accolade that has ever been thrown at it.

DVD $9.69  4 stars
When audiences caught a glimpse of an alien skull mounted in the trophy cabinet of a Predator in the 1990 film PREDATOR 2, it seemed a franchise was about to be born. Sure enough, comic book artists immediately seized on the possibilities suggested by the brief scene, and a number of skirmishes between the deadly foes were played out on the printed page. Fans have had to endure a lengthy wait for a cinematic match-up, but writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson (EVENT HORIZON) has finally delivered the blood-splattered goods in ALIEN VS. PREDATOR. Set in the near future, a team of archaeologists lead by Charles Wiedland (Lance Henriksen, returning for more ALIEN action after appearances in the second and third films) ventures towards an inexplicable "hot zone" detected in Antarctica. Joined by Alexa Woods (Sanaa Lathan) and the requisite amount of human fodder for the otherworldly creatures to feast on, Wiedland and his cohorts discover a sizeable underground pyramid. Chaos ensues as they awake the Queen alien from her blissful slumber, causing face-hugging and chest-bursting scenes aplenty. But the ailing crew has a further quandary to grapple with in the shape of some fearsome Predators, who are using the aliens as bait for their offspring to brawl with in an ancient initiation ritual. With the human team trapped in the labyrinth-like pyramid, the battle evolves into a nail-biting three-way tussle between the archaeologists and their extraterrestrial adversaries. Fans of both the ALIEN and PREDATOR movies should find much to satiate their appetites here, and with an ending suggesting further hostilities between the pernicious coupling, this one looks set to run and run.
