Following a bloody civil war, young Ofelia enters a world of unimaginable cruelty when she moves in with her new stepfather, a tyrannical military officer. Armed with only her imagination, Ofelia discovers a mysterious labyrinth and meets a faun who sets her on a path to saving herself and her ailing mother. But soon, the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur, and before Ofelia can turn back, she finds herself at the center of a ferocious battle between good and evil. Director: Guillermo Del Toro. Actors: Maribel Verdu, Sergi Lopez, Ivana Baquero. This 2 DVD set includes over 2 hours of special features! Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, PAN'S LABYRINTH is a thrilling, violent fairy tale set in post-Civil War Spain. Ivana Baquero stars as Ofelia, a young girl who moves with her mother, Carmen (Ariadna Gil), into the home of Captain Vidal (Sergi López), in an abandoned mill in the middle of dark, dangerous woods. Vidal is leading his team of soldiers against resistance fighters--and he will do whatever is necessary to kill every last one of them. As Vidal bosses around the pregnant Carmen, a flying creature leads Ofelia through a garden labyrinth and into an underground cave ruled by Pan (HELLBOY's Doug Jones), who believes that Ofelia might be the lost princess of this strange yet magical place. To prove she is royalty, Ofelia must complete three tasks, each more difficult and terrifying than the previous one. Meanwhile, Vidal is becoming more and more paranoid, torturing and murdering seemingly at will. Del Toro (THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, HELLBOY, CRONOS) creates a marvelous battle between good and evil, between heroes and villains, in both the real world aboveground and the mystical land below. Baquero gives a compelling performance as the terrorized Ofelia, who is befriended by Mercedes (Maribel Verdú), a woman who harbors some secrets of her own. Stellar production design, superb special effects, and a stirring score by Javier Navarrete add to the scary fun. Selected as the closing-night entry in the 2006 New York Film Festival, PAN'S LABYRINTH is a captivating story that is not for the squeamish. Pan's Labyrinth Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Remind's me of city of lost children kind of... Although probably less wierd than city of lost children, and quite a bit bloodier,in which I think there could of been less, because to me if older people don't like movies without a hole lot of blood it just makes them seem very juvenile, and I'm twenty seven, but I thought this movie was very good all in all, still to me it's not as good as The city of lost children, this one try's hard to be a work of art,and that movie is a work of art, that doesn't really even try to be,so at times it even seem's quite a bit like a rip off, because that movie's rated R,and so is this, and they're both foriegn film's,and they also have the same Alice in wonderland vibe, but atleast they dubbed that one.
This one I did like the way the faun looked, all dark and creepy, but I wish there were more mythical creature's in the film, and I find it odd that the director said that thing's should be as original as possable yet the so called oger look's like something straight out of silent hill.
Another complaint I have is how all the part's with the captain or whatever his rank is,I really don't know,or care, seemed to borify, and slow down the movie to a crawl, but it was still not nearly as boring as the horid Devils backbone movie. The only thing cool about that movie was the dead kid with the stuff floating out of his head.
Anyway's I also thought that the frog part was gross, and really didn't have to be done like that, but all in all it was a very well done dark fantasy with a violent flare, seeming in what I'd call a desperate attempt to lore in fan's of bloody movie's like saw,who might not like dark fantasy's,but I think that honestly people would of liked this movie with half the blood or even no blood.
Well I've written far to much,so I'll just say that I hope everyone enjoy's this movie it is really quite extra ordinary, hell I might even forgive the director for making Devil's backbone, and Blade 2...

Best movie of 2006 This is without question the best movie of 2006. It has all the elements of a finely crafted classic - great character development, riveting story line, tons of imaginative features, wonderful cinematography, woven together into an emotionally fulfilling tale that you'll want to see again and again. Del Toro has arrived as one of the premier movie makers of the era. Submitted by JBack (So. Cal) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Well-crafted This is an excellent movie which was directed with obvious attention to detail and atmospherics. As was previously mentioned, there is considerable violence and inhumanity which neagates this movie as viewing material for children. This movie has a macabre, dreamlike quality, rarely achieved in other efforts. The DVD has a Spanish language soundtrack with English subtitles...so you will be reading your way through the movie. A beautiful manichaean theme in a film! Absolutely worth watching more than once. Not for children. This is a film for grown ups ONLY, because there are several scenes with brutal but truthful violence, that would be really shocking and disturbing for a child to watch!
Quite a gnostic and manichaean film in the purest sense of the word!

$26.35 Television executives plugged into viewers' deepest fears with the debut of TALES FROM THE CRYPT in 1989. Its original source material was the EC comic-book; the series originated on HBO and would go on to run for seven seasons. Pan's Labyrinth review
$10.29 After a great deal of discussion--on the part of fans and producers alike--over Daniel Craig's (THE MOTHER, MUNICH) suitability for the role of James Bond, he more than proves himself in this explosive revamping of the franchise. Under the direction of Martin Campbell (THE MASK OF ZORRO) and with Paul Haggis (CRASH) helping with the re-writes, this addition to the Bond canon manages to hold true to the essence of the stories--the villainous villains, the fabulous sets, the beautiful women, the fast-paced action--while updating the formula with subtlety and humanity.
Trading in the Cold War era for a new, post-9-11 landscape, the tale unfolds in locations that span the globe, including the Bahamas, Venice, and the Czech Republic. It opens in Madagascar, where Bond pursues a guerilla bomb-maker in one of the most breathtaking chase scenes ever--and it all takes place on foot. ...

Pan's Labyrinth DVD
$9.69 An ambitious labor of love from writer/director/star Emilio Estevez, BOBBY attempts to distill the hope, anger, and confusion that gripped the U.S. in the late 1960s. With the civil rights movement still reeling from the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the country embroiled in the confusion of Vietnam, Senator Robert F. Kennedy's campaign preached a message of peace and tolerance. In a style similar to the sprawling works of Robert Altman or Paul Thomas Anderson, Estevez uses the June 4th, 1969, assassination of Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles as the means to take a snapshot of the problems facing the country as the 1960's came to an end.
The hotel is a microcosm of class and race, with characters bouncing off each other until the violent conclusion. African-American head chef Edward (Laurence Fishburne) presides over a kitchen staffed primarily by Mexican Americans who are the victims ...
