Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles This independently produced drama is based on historical fact: In 1857, Mormon settlers, in an area near Cedar City, massacred 120 people bound for California. Jon Voight plays Jacob Samuelson, a paranoid religious zealot whose initial hostility to the settlers is inspired partly by women wearing pants, and the fact that some of them come from Missouri (a state that drove the Mormons out). From this snowballs a fury of religion-based intolerance that leads to the historic Mountain Meadows Massacre of, prophetically enough, September 11th. Director Christopher Cain (YOUNG GUNS) shows skill in creating period detail and a sense of inescapable dread, even amidst the wide open spaces of the beautiful mountainous locations. Deep shadows caused by the stark sunshine contrast with lots of tense, sweaty close-ups of fear-stricken and hateful faces. Terence Stamp shows up as the Church of Latter Day Saints leader Brigham Young, who gets involved in the decision to massacre the settlers (a controversial detail, debated to this day). Offsetting the unease is a Romeo-and-Juliet-style romance between one of Samuelson's handsome young sons (Trent Ford) and Emily (Tamara Hope), a beautiful red-headed maiden from the wagon train. A nice score of acoustic guitars and strings blends suspense and rustic breeziness.
This is the only Krisinda Cain video. Stars also making their debut in this video: John Gries. September Dawn Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) september dawn Just wondering why this movie had to be so bloody and with all the shootings graphically portrayed? Otherwise it was a good, suspense-filled story complete with love story and a FINE portrayal by newcomer Trent Ford and of course, always great, veteran Jon Voight. The story was a good one, contrived from actual history, but it was also unnecessarily filled with graphic violence and blood. Submitted by ronosorum (New York, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Depressing September Dawn is one of those movies that is about a real event, but it's controversial in it's depiction. The Mormons are depicted as people twisted with their beliefs very disturbing and it might offend some people.Other than that the movie has fair storytelling and respectable acting. A BRILLIANT QUEST FOR TRUTH!! I saw the premiere in L.A., and talked to a group of the invited massacre descendants after the film. Then, I came home and started reading. The depth of this story, and the impact it still has, as an unresolved issue (due to the LDS church position of denial, justification, and suppression), is astounding. Having spent time with the original historical documents available online, I am even more impressed with Cain and his cast. Forget what LDS defendants say. See the film!! It will launch you into a powerful quest to find proof of the truth. Submitted by Johnathan (Los Angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful. History is always educational It is great that this historical pioneer story is finally a movie. We have seen several great documentaries but to see it on screen with Jon Voight and all the other fabulous actors was a great honor for the descendants. Christopher Cain deciding to come out of retirement for this story deserves an award. Submitted by ANITA (Modesto,CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful. $10.19 The grisly and debauched film PATHOLOGY is a juiced-up medical thriller that plays like FLATLINERS with a mean streak and a broken moral compass. Writers Mark Nelvedine and Brian Taylor have created a premise allowing for CSI-like forensics along with heaps of sex and violence, truly making the most of the film's R-rating. A high-end exploitation film with good performances, PATHOLOGY is strong enough for horror fans and should go down smoothly for non-squeamish viewers with a taste for the dark side.
