Personnel: Lou Donaldson (alto saxophone); Grant Green (guitar); Baby Face Willette (organ); Dave Bailey (drums). Here 'Tis is in the front rank of Lou Donaldson records, an exceptionally funky soul-jazz session that finds the saxophonist swinging harder than usual. As he moves from hard bop to soul-jazz, Donaldson reveals a bluesy streak to his playing while keeping the vigorous attack that defined his best bop. Donaldson's playing is among his finest in the soul-jazz vein, but what makes Here 'Tis such an enjoyable session is his interaction with his supporting trio of guitarist Grant Green, organist Baby Face Willette, and drummer Dave Bailey. As support, all three know how to keep a groove gritty and flexible, following Lou's lead and working a swinging beat that keeps flowing, never growing static. Green and Willette also have their time in the spotlight, and both musicians are frequently stunning. Green's single-note leads are clean and inventive; Willette is rhythmic and forceful, but also capable of soulful, mellow leads on the slow blues. Their talent, combined with Donaldson at a peak, results in a terrific record. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Lou Donaldson Here 'Tis Songs Purchase Here 'Tis CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Stanley Turrentine That's Where It's At CD (1962) Bonus Track; Remastered

Here 'Tis
$13.95 Hi kids! Go to the official Afterconfusion Soupmobile Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/afterconfusionsoupmobile2 for lotsa groovy info, pictures, stories and weirdness. Here are the cast of characters (past and present)involved in this mind-expanding album:Carl Smith bio............ He has been known to talk to birds. They have been known to talk back. Carl is one of those rare guitarists whose playing is always a direct extension of what he happens to be thinking at any given moment - and that can be pretty interesting! His solos have been known to make people laugh, cry and think of their Science Fiction Grandmas all at once. He is also currently the proud owner of a Jupiter trumpet. Brian Wengrofsky bio.............Brian is the only guitar player I know who can rock the Jobim mildness and wear a space-helmet in honor of Arthur Brown without disrespecting either of those two great pillars of modern sound. Brian is the Great Flaming Beard with the Streaming Toilet Paper in the Sky. He knows how to make peanut butter jars dance. Really! He is the musical equivalent of a Kwol Brash. And he knows all about the "Peter Frampton Factor". Oh, and he's a helluva cinematographer as well!Chris Kaiser bio.............Chris has been pummeling the living daylights out of drums since he was eight years old. Having lived through various past lives, he can't recall with accuracy how he wound up where he is, but he's always been from Ceiling anyway so it doesn't really matter. Chris tries to keep up with the other two Ceiling Masters as best he can, but usually he ends up quoting from the "First Book of Herb Albert" or something................Jenny Gerbi.......................was the only REAL bass player the Soupmobile ever had. We've decided not to bother trying to replace her so all other bass players on the CD are making guest appearances in her absence. Hey Jenny! If you're out there.............do you still have your bass? Alright - it'll be "Psychedelic Child" into "Hippie Queen" - okay????? One, two, three, FOUR!...........Paul ...
