Lucie, a 10 year old girl, is found wandering in the streets, bruised and bloodied. Unable to say who did this to her, or why, she is placed in a hospital where she meets Anna, another young girl who had been abused. Fifteen years later, with Anna's help, Lucie sets out to get revenge on her attackers. When she believes she has found the couple who abused her, she confronts them . . . and that is when the terror truly begins. Director: Pascal Laugier. French cinema continues its reign as the brutal roi of international horror with this startling import. MARTYRS begins in the 1970s, with a young kidnapping victim named Lucie running through the streets, barely clothed and covered in cuts. At the hospital, she bonds with fellow patient--and abuse victim--Anna, and they forge a bond that lasts for years. More than a decade later, the violence in their lives continues, but this time they may not be the victims. Heady French horror tale is a terrifying descent into madness and torment. Martyrs Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Roth get out of the way!! One of the most disturbing films i've ever seen, and I've seen some. This is Hostel but with brains, is Funny Games at Nth potence, is Last house on the left but for the world today... Submitted by Tlaloc (México) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
what an overrated piece of crap This movie starts out promising but becomes the same old torture cliche for the last thirty minutes. The reason this movie is so highly praised is because it is a French horror film. If this was an American horror film, people would be complaining that it is just like Hostel. Reverse xenophobia is alive and well in the horror genre. Oh, to people who say an Ameican couldn't make this, I say who cares. Nothing here worth making anyway. See "Inside"ifyou want to see a decent French film. Submitted by Ken (Raleigh, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great horror film It is a brilliant film. Well acted and filmed. A horror film where you honestly feel sorry for the main characters. Quite possibly the greatest and most disturbing horror film ive ever seen. Hollywood can never make a film like this! As they prefer the audience to laugh at tourture and death rather than feel qenuine horror. Submitted by Stephen (London, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Be a "Witness" to the most gruesome horror you've ever seen! Martyrs is on of those horror films that forces you to sit through psychological hell. What these two girls go up against...no one comes out the same. You may have heard this film is violent, and it IS, but its more than that, its a study of the limits of the human mind. These days horror films are filled with moments of laughter, even if someone is getting there head copped off. Martyrs is as serious a film as you are going to see, trust me. Not one part of this movie is worth laughing over. The key to a horror film is you have to CARE for the characters, ESPECIALLY in horror. If you connect, you feel for them. The ending is brilliant as well...this movie WILL stay with you well after you have seen it & analysis it, even if you did not like it. Be warned it contains graphic violent & torture(I mean it little kids, stay away..its NC-17), some moments were hard even for an avid horror buff like myself to see, it's the Unrated version so is may be a bit more violent, but frankly, I am glad they came out with this version, even if we didn't need the extra torture scenes. $9.69 The grisly and debauched film PATHOLOGY is a juiced-up medical thriller that plays like FLATLINERS with a mean streak and a broken moral compass. Writers Mark Nelvedine and Brian Taylor have created a premise allowing for CSI-like forensics along with heaps of sex and violence, truly making the most of the film's R-rating. A high-end exploitation film with good performances, PATHOLOGY is strong enough for horror fans and should go down smoothly for non-squeamish viewers with a taste for the dark side.

$18.00 After only three features, Lucrecia Martel has firmly established herself as one of world cinema's most distinctive visionaries. Following up on her subliminally atmospheric LA CIENAGA and THE HOLY GIRL, Martel goes even deeper into cinematic obliqueness with THE HEADLESS WOMAN. The story concerns Veronica (Maria Onetto), who accidentally hits something while driving one day. To the viewer, it appears to be a dog, but Veronica is unable to shake the fear that she killed a young boy. As the days wear on, she has trouble recalling even the most basic details of her life, to the point where she appears to be suffering from amnesia. ...

Martyrs film
Chilean director Pablo Lorrain's TONY MANERO is a film that has very few cinematic precedents, if any. Establishing a tone of its daringly original own, it somehow manages to be three things at once: a powerful portrait of life lived under a dictatorship, a bitter critique of an individual who will do anything to reach his goal, and a blackly comic satire of celebrity obsession. Raul Peralta (Alfredo Castro) is a 50-something ...

$15.95 As their 10th anniversary approaches, Breda (Eileen Walsh) and Billy (Aidan Kelly) are trying to get over a rocky part of their marriage. Billy, who works for the phone company, spends most of his free time at the local pub and eyeing the much younger Imelda (Sarah Greene), who loves to party. Meanwhile, Breda discusses her marital problems with her best friend, Eilish (Lesley Conroy), who thinks Breda needs to go out more and have fun instead of just staying home and taking care of her two kids, Edel (Carolyn Murray) and James (Brendan Kelleher). Breda has big plans for the anniversary night, even making a new dress for the occasion, hoping it will inject much-needed romance into their stale marriage, but Billy keeps growing more and more distant. Although he promises that their anniversary will be special, he is worried that he will not be able to live up to his word. Directed by Declan Recks, EDEN, set in the Irish Midlands, is a poignant adult drama based on the two-character play by Eugene O'Brien, who also wrote the screenplay. The title is both a reference to the small town of Edenderry, where O'Brien is from, as well as the biblical Garden of Eden, where temptation was just within reach. Recks and O'Brien, along with Walsh and other members of the cast and crew, had previously worked together on the successful Irish television miniseries PURE MULE, and that experience helps give the ...
