In this $7.9 million-grossing film, Frank Castle (Ray Stevenson) takes on a Mob boss (Dominic West). Bonuses: featurettes, commentary, digital copy, MoLog. PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, the third screen appearance from Marvel Comics' angel of death, continues the saga of Frank Castle, normal New York City citizen turned Mafia-slaying vigilante following the murder of his wife and daughter. Upping the violence level to the intensity of a horror film, this outing requires no prior knowledge of the character's screen antics and features an appealingly stoic performance from Ray Stevenson, who cuts an imposing physical presence, and is a more-than-worthy successor to previous Punishers Dolph Lundgren (1990) and Thomas Jane (2004).
Six years after the death of his family, Frank Castle is still waging war against organized crime in New York. After he ambushes a party for an aging mob boss and turns it into a bloodbath, the battle moves to a recycling warehouse where Castle pushes gangster Billy Russoti (Dominic West) into a swirling vat of broken glass. During his escape, Castle accidentally shoots one of the FBI men who have arrived on the scene. Russoti undergoes plastic surgery, but after seeing his badly disfigured face for the first time, he shoots his surgeon and dubs himself "Jigsaw." While a deeply regretful Castle attempts to make amends with the widow (Julie Benz) of the agent he has slain, Jigsaw rallies an army of criminals in an attempt to take down the seemingly indestructible Punisher. Though there are plenty of tongue-in-cheek moments to lighten its impact, the graphic bloodshed in PUNISHER: WARZONE is often startling and is sure to satisfy the bloodlust of any fan of violent action cinema. Directed by former karate and kickboxing champion Lexi Alexander (GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS), the film is frenetically paced and retains a true comic book feel, mostly due to a colorful lighting scheme and a particularly hammy performance by West, who seems to be having a blast. Punisher: War Zone Reviews: "The film works a bit better than the 2004 PUNISHER installment....Stevenson brings some gravity to the viscera."-- Michael Phillips, Los Angeles Times Punisher: War Zone | List Price | $39.99 (You save $9.54) | | Studio | Lions Gate Home Entertainment | | Orig Year | 2008 | | All Time Sales Rank | 56568 | | CD Universe Part number | 7856519 | | Catalog number | 25084 | | Discs | 2 | | Release Date | Mar 17, 2009 | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | for pervasive strong brutal violence, language and some drug use | | Running Time | 107 Minutes | | Additional Info | Widescreen; Special Edition; Subtitled | | Movie Details | Color; Widescreen; Special Edition; Subtitled; Blu-ray; 2-Disc Special Edition |
Punisher: War Zone Movie Review My favorite movie Probably the goriest, most violent movie ever made. At least the most violent action movie ever made. I loved this movie. If you love action movies, go see this movie. The last Punisher movie was my favorite movie, and this just blew it away! Submitted by Kyle (Grand Rapids, MI) Was This Review Helpful? don't hate me for this I saw this movie at Wal Mart and because of my boy-like fandom for Frank Castle, The Punisher, I bought it immediately. I personaly beleive that this has to be the worst movie of the Punisher franchise. Why?, you ask? Here, i'll tell you.
The Punisher, in my eyes, is a hurt, rage set, anti-hero with alot of emotional issues. He fights gangs, mosbsters, and super villains. He is bound by the pain of his past, and because of his conscience rectifies wrong through his eyes for those unable to fight back.
This film supplies all of that, but missed the "reality" that the first movie caught more often that not. You do get a short chance to connect with his "human side", but he just seems to kill without emotion so often through the movie. If revenge is his creed, they should have tried a little harder i think, but that's just me.
Now for the real reason I gave a 2 star rating. This movie has less visible talent, idiot villains, and not so believeable fight scenes. Yes, he does get hurt, and falls down, and gets right back up like the punisher does, but his villains are unbelieveable, over acted, and just don't bare rememberance. When the main bad guy falls into a vat of recyled glass and re-immerges in an all too familiar Joker-esque style seen in Batman, then grabs his "Loony Bin" brother as his hired muscle that plot just falls apart at the seams. With Jiggsaw, allot more could have been done.
If I offended any of you, I assure you that was not my intention. I just know lack luster when I see it. For the Punisher the way he should be remembered, watch the 1st movie. Submitted by Will (Hooks, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Greatest ride of my life!!! At last!! Punisher has a film that does him justice!! This movie is so much like the comics you might mistake it for the real thing.
Ray Stevenson was great, by far the best Punisher that could possibly be cast.
Dominick West was over the top, but in a good way. He was better than I thought he was going to be.
It's very violent and gorey. I highly suggest it if you're a Punisher fan, especially of the Ennis comics. Submitted by frankcastle09 (Winder, GA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

| | Last Year At Marienbad Blu-ray (1961)
Punisher: War Zone video
$30.29 In Alain Resnais's masterwork, L'ANNÉEE DERNIÈRE À MARIENBAD, each fantasy-laden, heavily dramatized, aesthetically perfect scene is dictated by the memories of a man (Giorgio Albertazzi), who is one of many elegant, aristocratic guests vacationing at the enchanting resort, Marienbad. Because the story consists of foggy memories that may or may not be accurate, the film unrolls like a repetitious dream. In the opening sequences, the man describes the immensity and silence of the lavishly decorated baroque hotel as the camera roams its empty hallways. Soon after, the hotel guests appear, assembled for a theater production inside the hotel. Like the actors in the play, the characters in the film make it obvious that they are also playing established roles and reciting lines. Sometimes they simply pose as the camera passes over them, while at other times, they stand like statues, trying to remember what happened last year. They amuse themselves with parlor games, ballroom waltzes, target practice in the shooting gallery, and strolls through the garden. Meanwhile, the man establishes the abstract plot about a love affair he began last year with a woman (Delphine Seyrig), reconstructed from his partial memories. She remembers nothing of the affair, not even the man's name. In fact, most of the guests cannot even recall the year in which these things might have happened--was it 1928 or 29? Each of Resnais's sets is more remarkable than the one before, as are the costumes by Chanel. Emphatic organ music drums up a fury of suspense as the actors's performances become increasingly overdramatized and unnatural, mocking the meaningless aristocratic resort ...
