Widescreen; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Dir/Cast Commentary; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re; Sensormatic; Blue Ray HD-DVD British director Danny Boyle takes another intriguing career turn with this heartfelt underdog tale. Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) is a street kid (or "slumdog") who has landed an appearance on India's version of the hit TV game show WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? Jamal exceeds expectations on the show, and the producers alert the police after they become suspicious of his methods. The young contestant is subsequently arrested and is interrogated at the hands of a nameless police inspector (played by Bollywood star Irfan Khan). As the interrogation proceeds, Boyle tells Jamal's story through harrowing flashbacks that both show the terrible poverty of Mumbai and help explain how he knew the answers to the MILLIONAIRE questions.
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is a tightly woven story that has been expertly edited into shape. The contrast between Jamal's upbringing and his chance of escaping it on the show are adeptly juxtaposed. Mumbai is portrayed as a place of terrifying poverty and unforgettable brutality, and Jamal and his brother get into a never-ending succession of challenging situations. But the way Boyle ties together Jamal's life experiences with his answers on the show is quite brilliant, and the film really does run the full gamut of emotions as we see him growing up, falling in love, coming close to death, and teetering on the brink of escaping from his terrible predicament. The film belongs to Boyle's cast, who are mostly unknown outside of India. Patel, in particular, gives a startlingly mature performance that audiences are likely to remember long after the credits role on this affecting feature. Slumdog Millionaire Video Slumdog Millionaire Movie Review Good movie I must admit, this film is very overrated; however it won the Academy Award for best picture, as well as countless other Oscars. It is an overall good film. It combines great dialogue, great acting and great storytelling. These elements create a great Oscar winning film. I still believe it is a very overrated film though and doesn’t compare to films that came out in that same year. For example, The Wrestler and Changeling were better films. However, Slumdog Millionaire is very realistic and worth watching. It is a visually good movie to watch and it has an edge of your seat attention grabbing plot and premise. Great camerawork and cinematography employed as well, with great music thrown into the mix. I advice this film highly, but I believe the hype, media and politics have made it very overrated and I’m getting sick and tired of hearing about it. There have been so many other great films that are better than this one that need to be recognised more among audiences, critics and the media. Overrated Slumdog Millionaire is one of the most overrated movies of the last few years. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie, but I would never consider it as an Oscar contender. It has an incredible cast and it's well-worth watching, but it's not the best movie of the year. If you want to see Oscar worthy movies then go see The Wrestler, Gran Torino, or the Dark Knight. The best film of 2008 Slumdog Millionaire is the best film I have seen this year. It is about a young man named Jamal who gets on the show who wants to be a millionaire? and gets all the answers right. After being told he has to go back tomorrow for the final question,Jamal gets arrested on the suspicion that he cheated to get the answers. When Jamal explains how he really got the answers, the film flashes back to Jamal's harrowing childhood with his older brother Salim. He falls in love with a Latika,a young girl whom he meets in the beginning of the movie. The film goes on from there and it is simply enthralling to watch. Simon beaufoy's script is incredibly detailed, never a flaw in the structure of the story and dev Patel delivers an understated, yet passionate performance as the present Jamal. Director Danny Boyle manages to mix grim reality with magical, eye popping fantasy which is quite an achievement. Boyle has made an intelligent, moving film that deserves to win the academy award for best picture. Submitted by joe (manhattan,ny,usa) Was This Review Helpful? SUPER FILM,,SEE IT Superb film and one of the best foreign films in the last 10 years. Film is depressing from beginning to end which is one of its bad points and does not show any of the beauty of India. However I dont think that was the vision of the film maker. Very similar to the the movie "City of Gods" from Brazil. Worth your time and money,,, buy Slum Dog now. Submitted by lolly (nyc,ny,usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful. Slumdog Millionaire film
$23.45 After PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and ATONEMENT, Keira Knightley continues her reign as the queen of the period film with this 18th-century costume drama. The corset-clad actress stars as Georgiana Spenser, the Duchess of Devonshire. With her marriage to the duke (Ralph Fiennes), Georgiana achieves an impressive level of fame as Britons follow both her clothing style and her political advice. But even celebrity and wealth can't act as a salve in her marriage to the boring, boorish duke. When he begins to flaunt his affairs, Georgiana is tempted to return to a teenage crush, Charles Grey (Dominic Cooper of THE HISTORY BOYS), to the anger of her husband and her mother (Charlotte Rampling, SWIMMING POOL).
Fiennes's portrayal of the duke ranks roughly with his Lord Voldemort on a scale of beastly behavior, but the acclaimed actor manages to give him a level of humanity that far surpasses what he deserves. THE DUCHESS focuses on the lack of power possessed by Georgiana and, in fact, all women of her time, and the duke is the primary agent of her suppression. As she has done with other period films from the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN series to KING ARTHUR, Knightley brings spirit to the role, as well as a regal carriage that perfectly fits the detailed costumes by Michael O'Connor. Slumdog Millionaire review
$27.99 From the unexpectedly graphic opening shot, director Sidney Lumet proves he hasn't lost any of his bite with age. BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD is a riveting suspense thriller that retains the director's classic approach to storytelling while updating it at the same time. Working from an intense, expertly woven script by playwright-turned-screenwriter Kelly Masterson, Lumet establishes his tragic tone immediately. The story concerns a New York family with a roiling undercurrent of dysfunction. The eldest son, Andy (Philip Seymour Hoffman), is a frustrated, drug-abusing stockbroker who is unable to satisfy his gorgeous wife (Marisa Tomei). The youngest son, Hank (Ethan Hawke), is passive and struggles to make alimony payments. Their parents (Albert Finney and Rosemary Harris) live in Westchester and operate a small jewelry store. Their lives begin to unravel when Andy approaches Hank about pulling off a heist that will seemingly solve all of their monetary problems. Everything about this idea is risky, yet Andy convinces his timid younger brother that this is his only way out of his current situation. Naturally, their plan falls apart, resulting in a series of tragedies that they never could have predicted.
BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD belongs beside such Lumet classics as DOG DAY AFTERNOON, NETWORK, and SERPICO. The cinematography and editing and score are all excellent, but the performances are what launch the film into the stratosphere. ...

Slumdog Millionaire film
$19.79 A well-crafted horror film in the tradition of Guillermo del Toro's THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, Swedish import LET THE RIGHT ONE IN ably blends genre chills with genuine feeling. Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant) is a 12-year-old outcast who is frequently picked on by his classmates. He dreams of getting his revenge, but he never stands up to the boys. With the arrival of his new next-door neighbor, 12-year-old Eli (Lina Leandersson), Oskar may finally have found a friend, ally, and first love. But Eli is no ordinary girl: she must keep her pale skin out of the sunlight, she can perform inhuman physical feats, and she has thirst for blood. The bodies begin to pile up, but Oskar can't stay away from the girl who has finally given him courage.
Based on the novel by John Ajvide Linqvist (who also wrote the script), LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is the best kind of horror film: one that transcends the tropes of the genre to become something new. This is director Tomas Alfredson's first foray into horror, and he doesn't hesitate to include bits of vampire mythology. But his background making comedies and dramas gives the film a surprising depth; the relationship between Oskar and Eli is tentative and sweet, even though their interactions may be surrounded by blood and violence. ...
