This is double DVD from Dickey Betts & Great Southern, from 2 different Rockpalast broadcast, 1st from 1978, 2nd from 2008. The 2008 show is fine show, finding the Mr. Betts in a "Jam-Band" state of mind. The true gem is the 78 show, w Mr. Betts at the top of his game. This version of "High Falls" is the best I have seen/heard. This is a must for any ABB fan, southern rock or rock fan! Great picture/sound.

 could be much better
No question as to the impact of Dickey Betts on Allman Brothers Band. The point is that you expect him to be a rocker- and he is not, a leader- and he is not. The headline "Southern Rock" is a try to cover a music which is somewhat shallow, boring and country like while the only songs that hold the times are AB songs. It can be that it all depends on Dickey Betts personality-the second guitar player and not the leader. Its a real shame as Dickey Betts stands in the front row in the history of the Rock.As a collector it is still a worth while purchase.

Dickey Betts and Great Southern were the third highlight at the Rockpalast Festival on March 4th/5th, 1978. On those evenings they played for the first time in Europe in front of an enthusiastic audience at the Gruga-Halle in Essen/Germany and millions of viewers on television. Dickey Betts is not an unknown to those who are familiar with American rock music. He was one of the original members of the "Allman Brothers Band" and formed his own band "Great Southern" in 1976. Blackfoot was a southern-rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, lead by singer/guitarist Rick Medlocke. Between 1975 & 1985 they released numerous albums, three of which are now making their worldwide CD debuts on Wounded Bird Records. 'Highway Song - Live' was originally issued in 1982 as a German import only and has been an extremely hard to find collectors item ever since.
