This reissue is what re-masters are all about. While the original master of UFO's HEAVY PETTING buried the quintet's sonic attack in a muddy mix, this one rediscovers their power and mints the band as a crucial link between early-`70s blues-based hard rock and late-`70s British heavy metal. Every track sounds exhilarating here--including the way-over-the-top electric harpsichord on "Belladonna"--and will rekindle any rock fan's love for these under-appreciated shredders. This reissue includes five previously unreleased tracks, all worth the price of admission for longtime fans.
Following the breakout success of Phenomenon and Force It, UFO had finally ascended to the first division of British hard rock. UFO's Obsession was to be their last studio record with star guitarist Michael Schenker. It did indeed contain lots of prime metal cuts, but some of the material ultimately fell flat. "Only You Can Rock Me" kicks off the album with a fun and carefree feel, while the funky "Pack It Up (And Go)" contains some John Bonham-like drumming courtesy of Andy Parker. The opening momentum is carried on through the slow Zeppelin groove of "Ain't No Baby," but soon the band hits the skids. The group takes a crack at a power ballad, which ends up sounding like an Elton John throwaway ...

In the spring of 2004, with Mission of Burma suddenly a semihot item following Matador Records' publicity blitz for the band's reunion album Onoffon, Rykodisc, the label who had reissued MoB's back catalog in the 1990s, decided to make the most of the press attention by putting together a "Mission of Burma's Greatest Hits" compilation. Since they had already issued a promotional-only MoB sampler in 1997, Rykodisc dusted it off, gave it the new title Accomplished: The Best of Mission of Burma, and prepped it for release. However, the band wasn't especially happy with the disc, and at the last minute Accomplished was pulled from release, and instead the group's members compiled A Gun to the Head: A Selection From the Ace of Hearts Era, which essentially took the place of Accomplished on the label's roster. While the title suggests a certain reluctance on the part of the band about this album, there's no arguing that A Gun to the Head is a better and more interesting collection of the band's first-era work than Accomplished; the track sequence flows more naturally, ...
