Personnel: Linda Ronstadt (vocals); Andrew Gold (vocals, guitar, ukulele, piano, drums, percussion); John David Souther (vocals, guitar); Kenny Edwards (vocals, bass); Bob Warford, Eddie Black (guitar); Herb Pedersen (banjo, background vocals); Danny Pendleton, Sneaky Pete Kleinow (steel guitar); David Lindley (fiddle); David Campbell (viola); Dennis Karmazyn (cello); Jimmy Fadden (harmonica); Tom Guidera, Emory Gordy, Chris Ethridge (bass); Russel Kunkel, Dennis St. John (drums); Peter Asher (percussion); Maria Muldaur, Cissy Houston, Joyce Nesbitt, Wendy Waldman, Clydie King, Shirley Matthews (background vocals). Recorded at The Sound Factory, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Capitol. Following the same formula as her early records, Heart Like a Wheel doesn't appear to be a great breakthrough on the surface. However, Ronstadt comes into her own on this mix of oldies and contemporary classics. Backed by a fleet of Los Angeles musicians, Ronstadt sings with vigor and passion, helping bring the music alive. But what really makes Heart Like a Wheel a breakthrough is the inventive arrangements that producer Peter Asher, Ronstadt, and the studio musicians have developed. Finding the right note for each song -- whether it's the soulful reworking of "When Will I Be Loved," the hit "You're No Good," or the laid-back folk-rock of "Willing" -- the musicians help turn Heart Like a Wheel into a veritable catalog of Californian soft rock, and it stands as a landmark of '70s mainstream pop/rock. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine There are just no two ways about it: if you call yourself a fan of '70s music, you simply must have Linda Ronstadt's HEART LIKE A WHEEL. Like Fleetwood Mac's RUMOURS and The Eagles HOTEL CALIFORNIA, this is a masterpiece that has earned a spot in every record collection that's worth its salt. Ronstadt, the '70s queen of southern California country-rock, is in pristine form. Her angelic voice is flawless as each track flows from one to the other like a gentle stream. Not only do you get the hit "You're No Good" and the Everly Brothers' classic "When Will I Be Loved," but the sorrowful title track and Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)" give testament to Ronstadt's legendary feel for driving the emotion home. What's more, if the powerful "Willing" doesn't have you longing for the days of bell bottoms and bandanas, you just aren't feeling it. With production by Peter Asher and guests like Emmylou Harris, Maria Muldaur, J.D. Souther and most of the aforementioned Eagles, Ronstadt crafted a magnificent blend of country, rock and folk that is among the greatest records made in a generation.Rolling Stone (10/31/02, p.136) - Ranked # 23 in Rolling Stone's "Women in Rock: The 50 Essential Albums" - "...It rocks..." Linda Ronstadt Heart Like A Wheel Songs Heart Like A Wheel Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) I Have the Vinyl and it was great, the CD is supurb! My husband had to have the song Willing, after hearing it on the movie The Abyss, and we had it on vinyl, but it was old and used. The CD is very superior in sound, and of course Linda's music is always great! Submitted by a reviewer (Terrell, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
No comment necessary, really... It is hard to imagine an album where singer, band, arrangers and production come together as perfectly as on this record. Its pristine quality wuill probably live on forever. Submitted by ning1 (San Salvador, El Salvador) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One for your collection I have this in vinyl. I listened to this over and over and a teenager. Linda has progressed over the years and this album was one of her early works that should not be overlooked. Submitted by tlbeef (Kansas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Absolute perfection! No other pop singer so perfectly embodies the Western mythical girl/woman, heartbroken yet resilient and entirely feminine in the traditional sense. There is a throbbing edge to Ronstadt's soprano that no other singer quite possesses -- the edge between vulnerability and willfulness that I find totally, irresistibly sexy.
It all came together on this album, her best album to date, and not a bad song or performance can be found here.
Absolute perfection!

a real good one! I think this is a great album. Good songs and Linda still have one foot in her roots. A few years later both her songs and her albums became more slimmed to fit the public.
Buy this cd instead of a greatest hits collection..... Submitted by sea (Stockholm/Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

Heart Like A Wheel
$11.55 Low: Alan Sparhawk, Mimi Parker, Zak Sally. Personnel: Hollis Mae (vocals); Gerry Beckley (background vocals). Additional personnel: Dave Fridmann (keyboards); Gerry Beckley. Audio Mixers: Dave Fridmann; Low. Over the years, Low have been on labels as diverse as Kranky and Virgin offshoot Vernon Yard, worked with distinctive producers like Kramer and Steve Albini, and have managed to adapt their sound without losing any of their identity. All of this applies to Great Destroyer, the band's first album for Sub Pop and their first collaboration with producer Dave Fridmann. Fridmann's detailed sound is a far cry from either Kramer or Albini's minimalist tendencies, but his work here shows that Low can sound as good in elaborate settings as they do in simple ones: "Monkey"'s intricate layers of distorted drums, organ, and guitar have an unusual depth, and the synth strings and heartbeat-like electronic drums on "Cue the Strings" just add to the intimacy and subtlety of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker's harmonies. Ironically enough, Great Destroyer is by far Low's most polished and accessible-sounding album, even more so than their quasi major-label output. That may turn off purists yearning for I Could Live in Hope's simplicity, ...
