| | Gabrielle Roth Trance CD Gabrielle Roth Discography of CDs
Trance is the latest in Gabrielle's cutting-edge musical series exploring primeval dance rhythms and ecstatic trance. Since her earlier drum-based efforts, Gabrielle's music has become more worldbeat in orientation, propelled by a powerful percussion section & various musicians who lend distinctive flavors to the pieces. At times funky and danceable, there are other portions which are airy and melodic, with trilling flutes and smoky sax. Jai Uttal adds to half the cuts, while Daniel Lauter and bandleader Robert Ansell join in as well. Rhythmic but restrained, earthy but ethereal, Trance is a strong pancultural statement about the hypnotic power of rhythm. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats
a marriage of Native American, Chinese & Australian instruments lay the ground for music that calls the soul into the body, the body into the beat and the beat into the belly

Trance album
$13.39 pulsating, rhythmic patterns take you from inertia to ecstasy on a shamanic journey called "The Dancing Path", progressing into "Body Jazz", a warm-up for each of the body parts
Initiation is "a musical map, from inertia to ecstasy," the formal musical presentation of Gabrielle Roth's 5-Rhythm "Wave." Moving and dancing from flowing through "stillness" can catalyze and release the emotions of fear, anger, sadness, joy, and peace, according ...

| | Gabrielle Roth Luna CD (1994)
Trance music CDs
$13.15 Woman, ceremony, and the allure of evening form the basis for this voluptuous and mysterious album. Gabrielle Roth's Luna begins with "Mother Night," a tapestry of layered percussion, from the deep toms to the metallic twang of the berimbau. Allison Cornell composed the stately yet sensual "Persephone's Song"; her violin skitters and slithers, while her viola offers thick chords played against pelvic bass beats. "Seducing Hades," with its angular staccato rhythms, is the funkiest cut on the album; the vocal apparitions of Cornell lend a ghostly air. World fusion artist Jai Uttal composed "Elusinian Blue"; Uttal's holy chant and stringed dotar give the piece its distinctive Indian flavor, while Gary Thomas' didgeridoo adds camel-like ...
| | Gabrielle Roth Stillpoint CD (1996)
Trance songs
$13.85 Many of Gabrielle Roth's albums are constructed around her 5-Rhythm "wave"; moving from flowing through staccato, chaos, and lyrical will bring you to a place of stillness. These eight samplings from previous albums have not abandoned the sensual and intriguing layers of percussion so typical of a Roth work, but they all rest on plateaus of peace and deep introspection. "Stone Circle" from Ritual centers with resonant Tibetan "oms" and gongs, while a reedy flute seems to ride the crisp air of the Himalayas. From Trance comes "Medicine Dream"; a commanding drum beats a stately procession to the drone of a synthesizer and the lyrical musings of the piano. "Red Wind" (Totem) centers on the heart beat, while synthesizer space winds and layers of voice fly by. The ...
| | Gabrielle Roth Zone Unknown CD (1997)
Trance album
$13.85 Mirrors musical director Gabrielle Roth takes her Five Rhythms (see Roth bio) onto the pavement and out into the steely nights of the city. Acoustic drums and percussion still set the trance-dance beats, but touches of electricity (bass, synth, drum programs) have infiltrated the hypnotic cadences. The result is an album more for pure dance (fun!) than for moving through emotional catharsis. Indeed, Roth's usual slogan, "Sweat your prayers," is slightly altered to "Dance your heart out and your ass off -- into the zone." The title cut is a slinky, almost spooky, version of her typical belly-dance "flowing" movement. Listening to this cut, one can easily see how the flowing movement will catalyze the emotion of fear -- very shadowy. "Downtown" includes the cool, muted jazz trumpet of Chris Botti, the funky bass of Sergio Bandao, and Roth's ...

| | Jessica Molaskey Pentimento CD (2002)
Trance songs
$13.35 According to Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary, pentimento is defined as "the presence or emergence of earlier images, forms, or strokes that have been painted over." Musical theater star performer Jessica Molaskey's album of the same name gives a jazzy musical twist to this definition by updating songs from the 1920s and '30s. The play list is made up of those wonderful songs that people were enjoying during the pre-Depression flapper and Depression eras. Often their lyrics reflected the social and economic mores of the time, such as "We're in the Money"; others are just lovely songs from a bygone era, some of which have survived quite well to this day. These were the staples of many vaudeville and music hall performers and Tin Pan Alley song pluggers. Molaskey is joined by a stellar cast of musicians as she freshens up these vintage melodies, giving them a somewhat modern sheen, but not enough to completely mask their authenticity as classic American popular songs. The all-star band includes Ken Peplowski with his middle-register clarinet, Larry Goldings, and veteran Johnny Frigo. This group is augmented by Molaskey's husband, guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli, ...

$8.15 It isn't uncommon for regional Mexican groups to come up with catchy slogans to market and promote themselves. Los Rieleros del Norte call themselves "La Máquina Musical Norteña #1," and Bronco bill themselves as "El Gigante de América." Meanwhile, Banda Pequeños Musical have been describing themselves as "La Banda Mas Romántica de América," which means "America's Most Romantic Banda Group" -- and that isn't misleading. While Banda Pequeños Musical are hardly the only banda act with a romantic orientation, there is no doubt that they have been among the leading proponents ...
