Some elevators are deeper than others
The first minute of Dare to Dream sets an environment which is clearly 1980's "new age" music. Music for quiet contemplation. Music for your elevator. Having listened to quite a lot of new age music, I am aware that some writers are happy just to use the quality of tones available in modern keyboards, with very simple little melodies. Yanni has put in a lot more work. Some of these pieces run quite deep with a lot of intricate workmanship. They improve with age. Repeated listening uncovers lines which I hadn't previously noticed. In partnership with his violinist and his vocalist, I found the album very nice indeed and I look forward to hearing more of his much more recent work. Michael.
