Composer/keyboardist Yanni is such a prolific artist that it behooves Private Music to bring together some of his finest moments for a compilation. He's such an unabashedly romantic artist that it seems only natural for such a compilation to be called LOVE SONGS, and to contain delicately constructed, lovingly performed pieces that convey a world of emotion without a single word being sung.
Drawn from various Yanni albums from the late '80s to the mid '90s, LOVE SONGS unsurprisingly centers around the simple, melodic piano work of the Greek pop star, and the lush, emotive arrangements by which his melodies are surrounded. The mood is uniformly soft and dreamy, and will appeal to fans of contemporary instrumental pop along the lines of John Tesh and Jim Brickman.
Includes a free Yanni calender.
Recorded between 1987 and 1993.
Personnel: Yanni (keyboards); Charlie Bisharat (violin); Charlie Adams (drums, percussion).

| | Yanni Tribute CD (1997)
Love Songs songs
$11.45 Recorded live at the Taj Mahal, India and the Forbidden City, Beijing, China from March to May, 1997.
Recorded live at the Taj Mahal, TRIBUTE pays musical homage to India on several songs; Greek-born composer and keyboardist Yanni describes the album as a tribute to the builders of the Taj and the Forbidden City, as well as to the people of India and China. Yanni's ethereal keyboard work is backed by an immense orchestra, vocalists, a choir, and various world instruments including didgeridoo, doodook, charango, and bamboo saxophone. The music is atmospheric and grand, expressing a variety of emotional states, from the triumphant opening song, "Deliverance," ...
| | Norah Jones Come Away With Me CD (2002) SACD Hybrid
Love Songs album
$16.05 COME AWAY WITH ME won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).
"Don't Know Why" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical).
This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. One thing that separates her from the pack is Ms. Jones' own piano stylings--not flashy, but deftly doubling or echoing her voice--that ...
| | Joyce Breach Reel Songs CD (1999)
Love Songs CD music
$12.09 For her sixth album for George Buck's Audiophile label, consummate cabaret songstress Joyce Breach has selected a program of torch songs, a novelty tune or two, and some up-tempo material. The common thread running through the musical agenda is that all the tunes are from movies made during the years 1929 to 1973. Thus, the album's title Reel Songs. To their credit, the producers did not fall back on familiar warhorses from movie musical scores, but instead they rescued songs that have been relegated to the oblivion bin. The arrangements tend to favor Breach being backed by piano, rhythm, and a sole instrument ...

| | Maynard Ferguson Hot CD (1979) Reissued
Love Songs album
$10.49 Hot could be the absolute worst of trumpeter Maynard Ferguson's '70s recordings. It's not just that it contains more over the top versions of theme songs -- "Rocky II Disco" anyone? -- and generally vomitive dancefloor-ready production, but more to the point, 'ol MF just doesn't sound good. His chops, long overworked by years of obscenely high trumpet squealing, are beginning to let him down. The problem is particularly glaring on the "Gospel John" reworking "Gabriel," in which Ferguson "fracks" and plays out of tune more than once. Beyond ...
| | Kim Waters All For Love CD (2005)
Love Songs CD music
$14.29 Since the soulful and charismatic saxman signed with Shanachie in 1998, smooth jazz fans have known where to go when they're in the mood for love. Judging from the titles of his hit genre albums Love's Melody, Someone to Love You, In the Name of Love, Kim Waters is in love with love, and he's sticking to this conviction. As strong as he is with slow dance ballads, however, he's been getting funkier in recent years, perhaps inspired by producing some of his label's hip-hop cover projects like Streetwize and Tha Hot Club. All for Love (have we run out of variations yet?) perfectly balances the two, with engaging melodies and a variety of grooves, some edgy and modern, some thumpy and retro, from start to finish. The first radio single was a moody, soul-ambient take on Aretha Franklin's "Daydreaming," ...
