Lama Gyurme / Jean-Philippe Rykiel Lama's Chant: Songs of Awakening/Roads of Blessings CD (2007)
Mexico's Pioneer Marichias, Vol. 4: The Very First Mariachi Recordings 1908 - 1909 songs In 1994, a recording of Bhutanese lama Gyurme and French keyboard player Jean-Philippe Rykiel circulated as one of the early contenders in a religious chant genre that would later encompass the popularity of the Benedictine Monks and others. The Lama's Chants/Songs of Awakening never hit as big in America as others later would, but it sold marvelously across Europe. Marking a decade since the original, Narada released a remastered version with an additional disc of live material, culled from concerts surrounding both the Songs of Awakening album and the later Rain of Blessings album. The tone remains ethereal throughout, with the solitary monk laying out a vocal texture that is doubled by the appropriately ambient tone of the keyboards. Very new age. While the compositions are surprisingly sparse (and, of course, don't contain any of Rykiel's usual Thelonious Monk inspiration), the finished product isn't too bad, even for those not attuned to the new age realm. The chants can get a bit repetitive, as chants are wont to do, but then again the point of listening to chant isn't for compositional complexity but for the mood and ambience the music inspires. The live recordings are a nice bonus for those who have already picked up the original version, but the album stands well both for newcomers and those acquainted with the style. ~ Adam Greenberg
It's been exactly ten years since the release of 'The Lama's Chant/Songs Of Awakening' by Tibetan Monk Lama Gyurme & French keyboards wizard Jean-Philippe Rykiel. This stunning album a musical UFO in the musical landscape of the mid-nineties was highly successful in Europe (more than 200 000 copies sold), especially in Spain (where it was certified gold), in Italy & France. Released worldwide (Last Call/Sony Classical), 'The Lama's Chant' became a 'classic' & remains unequalled. To celebrate this tenth anniversary, Last Call & Taktic Music are re-releasing a remastered version of 'The Lama's Chant/Songs Of Awakening', along with a bonus CD of unreleased live recordings. Recorded during the 1995/96/97 & 2000/2001 tours, these live performances convey an impressive feeling of power lead by the highly inspired voice of Lama Gyurme literally wrapped up by the keyboards of Jean-Philippe Rykiel & Loy Ehrlich. Last Call.

Bronco Huella Digital CD (2006)
Mexico's Pioneer Marichias, Vol. 4: The Very First Mariachi Recordings 1908 - 1909 CD music Since the '80s, Bronco have reigned supreme as the middleweight champions of norteño. They have plenty of grupero appeal and are clearly more pop-minded than Los Tigres del Norte, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Grupo Exterminador, Oro Norteño, or the late Chalino Sánchez. But they aren't without street cred in the regional Mexican market and can handle straight-ahead norteño as well; overall, they have an outlook that is less hardcore than Los Rieleros del Norte but more hardcore than Los Temerarios or Grupo Innovación. And that outlook continues to serve them well on Huella Digital, which doesn't break any new ground for Bronco but is a likable demonstration of their ability to walk that middle ground somewhere between providing nothing but hardcore norteño and being consistently bathed in pop gloss. "Un Agujero en el Alma," "La Rosario," and the exuberant "Nadie Como Tu" are among the CD's examples of straight-ahead norteño, but Bronco give listeners a big dose of Latin pop sensibilities on lighter, sleeker tracks like "Apenas Que No Existieras," "Dame un Razón," and "Por Haberte Amado Tanto." Those sleeker items are clearly aimed at the Latin pop-loving grupero audience, but again, Bronco have some street cred in addition to their romantic credentials -- and like other Bronco discs, this 2006 release will likely attract a blend of Los Huracanes del Norte fans and Conjunto Primavera fans. There are no compelling reasons why someone who has only a casual interest in Bronco's work would find Huella Digital to be an absolutely necessary purchase, but the die-hard Bronco enthusiast who wants to own as many of their CDs as possible will find Huella Digital to be a respectable addition to their catalog. ~ Alex Henderson

Wave Pool Carpe Diem CD (2007)
Mexico's Pioneer Marichias, Vol. 4: The Very First Mariachi Recordings 1908 - 1909 CD music During the recording of Wave Pool's debut album, the band didn't have a name until about half way into the project when Founder Chad Holland came up with the idea when from a dream he had one night about the band and what to call their music. And though the name brings to mind images of the water park, bikinis, farmer tans, arm floaties, and of course the water park wave pool - that's not what the name refers to.
Wave Pool is meant to personify waves of music, thoughts, emotions, passion, experiences and pieces of life pooled together and embodied in song, infused with rock, acoustic rock and a dash of folk rock. Chad has an enjoyably new and unique voice. Wave Pool's sound and vibe is one that listeners identify with and feel drawn into.
Wave Pool was officially formed in late 2005 after Chad, (guitar & vocals,) recruited long-time friend and drummer Jared Ragozzine to work on songs he had written, with the goal of producing a full length album. Jared had percussion training since age 14 and played in several local bands that performed and toured locally. These experiences, coupled with teaching private drum lessons, helped him hone his talent, skill, and style as Wave Pool's drummer.
To fill their need for accompaniment in the rhythm section, it wasn't long before Jared suggested recruiting bass player Jon Chase. Jon had been playing bass for years and Jared knew Jon's style would be a great fit for the band. The three really hit it off together in a jam session and the album had begun.
Recording the debut album Carpe Diem began in the summer of 2006 and took a number of months to complete. Though band members loved working on the album, each had previous responsibilities aside from the band. Anytime the trio could overlap their schedules, they jammed and recorded with intention to finish the album.
As the recording project carried into January 2007, Chad had thoughts of adding another voice in the rhythm section. Adding piano tracks to a number of the songs filled the void he had noticed. Knowing that a co-worker was a talented pianist, among other musical talents, Lani Mari Hyer was added to the mix. She happily agreed to see what she could come up with for the songs. By the end of instrumental tracking, Lani's piano tracks were added to 7 of the 11 songs, helping to fill the band's sound and add a great element to the songs.
Since the album was completely an indie project, Chad took-on producing, recording, and mixing the album himself having no prior experience in these areas. After a long learning curve, and meticulous scrutiny of each track, Chad felt satisfied with the final mix of the album. Carpe Diem was mastered at the talented hands and ears of Greg Duckwitz of Orpheus Sound Studios in Orem, Utah.
The band's sound has similar sounds to that of the Goo Goo Dolls and to Lifehouse, and earlier alternative rock bands, yet have a new modern sound all their own.
Album art work was designed by local artist and graphic designer Shawn Colloton of Ardent Design Studios, LLC.
Wave Pool's debut album was released on December 8, 2007. It is available through a number of digital distributors online, including iTunes , DigStation , CDBaby , and the CD and album/song downloads can be purchased directly from the Official Wave Pool web site at WavePoolMusic .
