Personnel includes: Pete Fountain (clarinet); Charles "Bud" Dant (conductor); The Jordanaires (vocals). o Personnel: The Jordanaires (vocals). Recording information: 1961-1967. Director: Charles Bud Dant. Photographer: Michael P. Smith. Arrangers: Herbert Rehbein; Pete Fountain; Charles Bud Dant. Although this CD draws its 22 selections from clarinetist Pete Fountain's best period (his years on the Coral label), the selections picked are sometimes a bit eccentric. Fountain is heard playing Dixieland with some of his bands, but is also joined by -- choral groups and occasional strings; no personnel listing or even recording dates are included. There is some good music along the way (such as "While We Danced at the Mardi Gras," "China Boy," "High Society," "Over the Waves" and "Indiana"), and even if this material deserved more knowledgeable treatment, most of these recordings are otherwise out-of-print; few are available elsewhere on CD. ~ Scott Yanow The title of this CD is quite inaccurate, for although it draws its 22 selections from clarinetist Pete Fountain's best period (his years on the Coral label), the selections picked are sometimes a bit eccentric. Fountain is heard playing Dixieland with some of his bands, but is also joined by inappropriate choral groups and occasional strings; worse yet, no personnel listing or even recording dates are included. There is some good music along the way (such as "While We Danced at the Mardi Gras," "China Boy," "High Society," "Over the Waves" and "Indiana"), but these recordings deserved much more knowledgeable treatment than this shoddy reissue. ~ Scott Yanow Although this CD draws its 22 selections from clarinetist Pete Fountain's best period (his years on the Coral label), the selections picked are sometimes a bit eccentric. Jazz, Fountain the Best I was very happy to find this CD. One song that I have been looking for was "Stranger on the Shore".
This CD was all that I thought it would be and the service of getting to me was great. Submitted by a reviewer (Indianapolis, In, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Best, YES!!! I had this album and several of his others for many, many years until Katrina took them all. This is a wonderful album, my favorite, with such diversity in tunes. He is SO smoothe... just LOVE his music! I first "discovered" his music as a child in the mid-50s and have been a fan ever since. Enjoy! Submitted by dizzycajun (Houston, TX) Was This Review Helpful?
