I FEEL LIKE SINGING TODAY was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.
An unlikely combination? A leading light of the alternative country/"Americana" scene making an album with a man who is, after Bill Monroe, the greatest of all bluegrass singer/musicians? Not really, when one considers the alt-country scene reaches further back to the roots than mainstream country, and Stanley, while staunchly sticking by bluegrass, has been receptive to working with younger musicians. (Bob Dylan considers his recording a duet with Stanley a highlight of his career.)
Essentially, FEEL LIKE SINGING is Lauderdale adapting his earthy style to Stanley's traditional bluegrass sound, as opposed to Stanley adapting to Lauderdale's eclectic style. But that's fine, as Lauderdale sounds perfectly natural, his deep, worldly drawl melding beautifully with Stanley's soulful high lonesome tenor. He contributes several originals, many of which sound like they could have been written in the '40s, except for "Highway Through My Home," which deals with the cost of "progress." Many songs are devout (but not preachy or judgmental) gospel, like the Lauderdale originals "Like Him" and "Another Sinner's Prayer," and the standard "This World Is Not My Home."

| | Kenny Rogers If Only My Heart Had A Voice CD (1993) (Import) United Kingdom
I Feel Like Singing Today CD music
$17.09 IF ONLY MY HEART HAD A VOICE, the 1993 release from country-pop superstar Kenny Rogers, contains the songs "Fighting for the Same Thing" and "She Waits," among others.
This 2005 Collectables release is actually a reissue of a 1993 release by Warner Bros. Before his full-on turn into the adult contemporary style in the latter half of the '90s, Kenny Rogers was still crafting country-pop tunes in earnest, hoping for another hit that would be in the same lineage as his successes of the '80s. Unfortunately, If Only My Heart Had a Voice doesn't come close to achieving that goal, but there are some moments on here that die-hard fans will enjoy. "If I Were You," his duet with Travis Tritt, is remarkable in its delivery and production and has aged well, along with the rest of the nine surprisingly consistent songs found within. ~ Rob Theakston
2003 reissue of a classic album by one of the best selling artists of all time, originally released on Giant Records in 1993. 10 tracks including 'If I Were You' (duet with Travis Tritt). Castle.
