Black Stalin has been the "National Calypso Monarch" in Trinidad's national competition 4 times (1991, 1985, 1985 and 1979).
Black Stalin has been among Trinidad's most popular soca and calypso musicians since 1979, when he won his first National Calypso Monarch crown. He has satisfied audience demands for joyous party material while also producing some incendiary, uncompromising protest material. Rounder collected 11 Stalin gems on this anthology. Such numbers as "Caribbean Unity," "Black Man Music," and "Burn Dem" have a pronounced Afro-Latin bent, showing soca's ties with Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Hi...Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me and my music. Music has long been a gift and a passion of mine as far back as I can remember. I started playing the piano and singing in the church choir at the young age of five. I was inspired and still am by music of all genre's. I was especially influenced by rock and roll !! I also love the sound of beautiful classical music. I appreciate music in all of its forms...
