| | Flaco Jimenez San Antonio Soul CD Flaco Jimenez Discography of CDs
Flaco Jimenez has recorded dozens of conjunto songs and albums and done material for both the American and Latino markets. This 14-cut Rounder anthology featured material recorded for the Mexican-American audience, and includes tunes that address such issues as immigration and the lifestyle of the border community. There are three rollicking instrumentals that showcase Jimenez's ability and flashy style on accordion. Other songs include romantic fare and traditional polkas and rancheros. His vocals and instrumental abilities are quite impressive, and provide solid examples of classic ethnic music seldom heard outside its target area. ~ Ron Wynn

San Antonio Soul CD music
$6.79 The Guess Who always seemed a bit like the Canadian predecessor/counterpart to Grand Funk Railroad, but they typically fared far better with the critics because of the versatility that they possessed. That trait is very evident on this collection of hits and great songs. From the opening "These Eyes," with its orchestral strings and Zombies-like baroque pop feel to the classic AOR crunge of "American Woman," the Guess Who played a wide variety of music. It is sometimes hard to believe that the same ...

San Antonio Soul music CDs
$13.89 Still working from the massive archives of field recordings done by Deben Bhattacharya over the years, ARC put together this compilation of recordings from 1955 during an overland trip or two between Paris and Calcutta, with a lengthy stop in the Middle East. The music is that of the various Bedouins, with a focus on those around Jordan and Syria in particular. The music is primarily vocal (instruments are often a luxury for nomadic peoples), though there are a few basic instruments present from time to time: fiddles, flutes, etc. There is, as in some other nomadic music, a tendency to go into dramatic, echoing passages (they sound great in the open expanses of a desert). Love songs and family lineage songs are the bulk of the content, but because Bhattacharya ...

$31.55 "All Star" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
When Smash Mouth hit with the impossibly catchy "Walking on the Sun," many dismissed them as a one-hit wonder, but ASTRO LOUNGE finds the band bidding for a longevity that belies flash-in-the-pan accusations. Raspy, Richard Butler-ish vocals ride roughshod over carefully arranged but driving alt-rock. The fuzzed-out riff, syncopated beat, and '60s organ of "Diggin' Your Scene" are slightly reminiscent of the aforementioned monster hit, but that's just because those are some of the most significant weapons in the band's arsenal. '90s electronic touches, loops and samples brush up against those '60s influences with surprising success, and there's even a bit of late-'70s/early-'80s new wave ...
