| | Lee Perry Mystic Miracle Star CD Lee Perry Discography of CDs
Recorded in New York in 1982 with a local band called the Majestics, MYSTIC MIRACLE STAR is Lee Perry's most cohesive album in years. The producer/performer left Jamaica in the late '70s and went through a period of personal and professional turmoil. MYSTIC MIRACLE STAR's seven lengthy tracks alternate between such powerful reggae songs as "Holy Moses" and extended dub grooves like "Eradication Squad." Other highlights include the atmospheric title track and the sly "Pussy I Cocky I Water." Those hoping to hear Perry at his most experimental may be somewhat disappointed, as MYSTIC MIRACLE STAR is a straightforward, song-oriented collection. But it's classic Perry nonetheless.
Recorded at Dynamic Sounds and Aquarius Studios, Kingston, Jamaica.
Personnel: Lee "Scratch" Perry (vocals, harmonica, horn, xylophone); Don Grant (guitar); "Gladdy" Anderson (piano); Ron Stackman (keyboards, background vocals); Jim Schwartz (bass, background vocals); Louis LaVilla (drums, background vocals).

There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.
In addition to his moving message of love and unity, Marley is a master songwriter, as the timelessness of songs like "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and the gorgeous, poignant "Redemption Song" proves. Of course, a true sampling of Marley's output would ...

| | Bad Brains CD (1982)
Mystic Miracle Star music CDs
$11.25 BAD BRAINS was originally released on cassette. It was issued on CD for the first time in 1996.
The Bad Brains were one of the most important voices of the East Coast hardcore scene during its halcyon days of the '80s. What they brought to the scene was nothing short of revolutionary--infusing the form's rage with the spiritual conviction of the Rasta tradition and the instrumental prowess of seasoned jazz players, they breathed new life into a genre in danger of stagnation, or worse, homogenization. Their album on the initially cassette-only ROIR label arrived like a new day, brimming with positivity and spirituality, as well as an unarguable mastery of the musical form of hardcore.
From the album's opening strains on "Sailin' On," the book was re-written, or at least opened a little wider. Vocalist H.R., one of punk's speediest singers, growls and screams his message like a man possessed. On the band's most recognizable classic, "Pay To Cum," his staccato delivery truly reaches breakneck speed, barely decipherable, the song is ...

| | Ub40 Labour Of Love CD (1983)
Mystic Miracle Star album
$8.85 This is UB40's "tribute" album with cover versions of their favorite songs from 1969 through 1972.
Playing reggae and supporting the UK Labour Party during a decade of Thatcherism and racism demonstrated that these chaps had morals and guts. They eventually prospered (good ultimately conquers bad) and they can now look back and taste their achievement. In the UK, UB40 have done as much to popularize reggae as Bob Marley did for the rest of the world. This is their most refined album and contains some of their major hits. They make a point in the sleeve-notes of informing the listener that all these songs had been recorded by Jamaican artists. No apology is needed - their 'Cherry Oh Baby' and 'Red Red Wine' have become ...

Mystic Miracle Star music CDs
$43.39 The third instalment in Trojan's series of singles from Lee "Scratch" Perry's Upsetter label picks up in late 1970, where Volume 2 left off, and takes the series into 1971. As with the first two volumes, the two-disc digipack includes a booklet with lots of very cool photos and extensive notes on each song; and also like the others, this one is chock full of great songs by artists both famous and obscure, all of them colored by Perry's trademark brilliant (if always quirky) production style. The 47 tracks include some familiar favorites, such as Junior Byles' strangely moving "Place Called Africa," Bob Marley's epochal herb anthem "Kaya," and the inevitable four or five takes on the ...

Mystic Miracle Star music CDs
$10.15 The project for the band BENHUR was originally conceived in March of 2005 by Ben Nissan, who was at the time in the midst of completing a law degree. Interest from a record label inspired him to consider the possibility of making a living from his music, his life-long passion. Though he ended up turning down the deal he was offered, partly for the sake of focusing on his studies and completing his law degree, he eventually made the decision to pursue a career in music. In September 2007, with a law degree in hand and a lucrative future in the legal world ahead of him, Ben turned his attention to forming a band. After setting up literally hundreds of meetings and auditions his patience finally paid off after finding award-wining and accomplished fellow musicians who shared his drive and vision, giving rise to the band BENHUR. BENHUR has since played all over the city of Toronto including legendry venues such as Lees Palace, The Cameron House, and El Mocambo. The band has managed to produce a live sound that is melodically driven and emotionally charged. Their music has a unique yet familiar sound that has quickly gathered a following in the Greater Toronto Music Scene. The vocals ...
