| Excellent: His best yet I can't stop listening to this new album. It truly shows Smitty in his prime and even at times has little secrets hidden in his songs (like in "I Still Have the Dream" he starts singing "Day-o, Dayo Day-o" which is from one of his VERY old songs, "Seed to Sow") Besides that, the title cut is easily one of the most inspirational songs of this decade and should be heard by every single soul. Steven Curtis Chapman Speechless CD (1999)
This Is Your Time buy CD music Principally recorded at Sound Kitchen, Franklin, Tennessee and Abbey Road Studio, London, England.
SPEECHLESS won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
With SPEECHLESS, his 12th studio album, Steven Curtis Chapman turns an ear to gurgling synths and trenchant guitar work to enliven a baker's dozen of spiritual testimonials. For five minutes of fist-pumping musical inspiration, one would be hard-pressed to beat the title track. An introduction of innocuous-seeming strings and acoustic guitar crescendo into a wave of emotion guaranteed to stoke the embers of life within even the most world-weary Christian soul (indeed, the excitement is so great here that one wonders if our cast of studio musicians didn't endure at least one fractured crash symbol or snapped violin string!). The Dave Matthews Band-inspired "Whatever" seems destined to bring Midwestern arenas to their feet. And don't miss "I Do Believe" with an APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION-era ("Mr. Brownstone," anyone?) lead guitar riff that casts an appropriately dark tension over the proceedings.

Steven Curtis Chapman Greatest Hits CD (1997)
This Is Your Time CD music All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.
One of the most popular musicians to fall into the ambiguous category of "Christian rock," Steven Curtis Chapman offers a survey of his ten-year career with this album, with a song selection ranging from 1987's FIRST HAND to his most recent release, SIGNS OF LIFE. Chapman delivers an impassioned Christian message with every song, from clearly spiritual tracks like "Not Home Yet," one of two new songs on the album, to more personal, earth-bound songs like "I Will Be Here," a sweet ballad written for Chapman's wife. While the themes of Chapman's music have been constant, his sound has evolved from radio-friendly, midtempo country-pop to a more rock-influenced grittiness, like 1996's edgy "Lord of the Dance," which appears on GREATEST HITS in an appealingly rough one-take version.
Personnel: Steven Curtis Chapman (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, background vocals); Brent Barcus, Gordon Kennedy, Randy Pearce, Kenny Greenberg (guitar); Hardy Hemphill (piano); Shane Keister (keyboards); Chris McHugh, Will Denton (drums); Chris Rodriguez (background vocals).

First Decade: 1983-1993 CD (1993)
This Is Your Time songs Beginning with "Do You Dream of Me," a tender duet between Michael W. Smith and his longtime friend and associate, Amy Grant, THE FIRST DECADE successfully hits the high points of the Christian pop singer/songwriter/keyboardist's initial decade of recordings. While devoted CCM fans may be most pleased with Smith's blatantly faith-based tunes (see the soaring "Great Is the Lord"), his pop-leaning numbers are equally, if not more, impressive in their ability to convey spiritual concerns in a more general way, as best revealed on his poignant crossover hit, "Place in This World."
McMillan (harmonica, percussion); Jerry Dale McFadden (accordion); Mark Heimermann (keyboards, background vocals); Phil Madeira (Hammond B-3 organ); Tommy Simms (bass); Steve Brewster (drums); Mark Hammond (keyboard, bass & drum programming); Chris Harris (background vocals).

Live the Life CD (1998)
This Is Your Time album for sale Produced by Mark Heimermann, Michael W. Smith, Stephen Lipson.
All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
LIVE THE LIFE was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
On his eleventh album, Christian artist Michael W. Smith proves once again his ability to provide pop appeal while maintaining his integrity, as well as continuing his themes of thankfulness and deep religious faith. LIVE THE LIFE varies from Smith's previous albums in that he plays guitar rather than piano, lending an edgier, more assertive tone to the music. Highlights include the anthemic title track; the quirky "Love Me Good," and the touching "Hello, Goodbye," which was written for friends of Smith's whose new baby died. Smith attributes the themes of LIVE THE LIFE, as well as its title, to a quote by St. Francis of Assisi: "Preach the gospel to all the world and if necessary, use words."

Jars Of Clay If I Left the Zoo CD (1999)
This Is Your Time CD music IF I LEFT THE ZOO won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
In the '90s, groups like Jars of Clay began to address the perceived gap between Christian music and rock. For young rock/pop artists of the Christian faith, there seemed to be no happy medium until groups like this one learned how to keep the beat while keeping in close contact with their spiritual values. IF I LEFT THE ZOO proves to be a rather ambitious effort for this quartet. It opens with "Goodbye, Goodnight," an eccentric tune whose chamber string section and sophisticated harmonies recall SGT. PEPPER-era Beatles. After that, though, it's straight into a hard-grooving rocker ("Unforgetful You") laced with funky rhythms and buzzing synths. The incidental studio noise and occasional self-parodic touches that crop up throughout the album show that, though their lyrics often address spiritual themes, Jars of Clay have an extremely well-developed sense of humor. Make no mistake, Jars aren't a bunch of scripture-obsessed proselytizers; their message is a subtle one. The only thing they're trying to convert listeners to is the subtly enthralling power of their arrangements and compositions.
Principally recorded at Steet Tea, Oxford, Massachusetts.
Recording information: Sweet Tea, Oxford MS.
Jars Of Clay: Dan Haseltine (vocals, toy piano, drums, percussion, loops); Stephen Mason (acoustic, electric & lap steel guitars, keyboards, percussion, background vocals); Matt Odmark (acoustic & electric guitars, percussion, background vocals); Charlie Lowell (accordion, piano, Wurlitzer piano, toy piano, Hammond B-3 & pump organs, Mellotron, Moog synthesizer, percussion, background vocals).
Additional personnel: Clay Jones (acoustic guitar, mandolin); Dennis Herring (acoustic guitar); Ben Egan (lap steel guitar); Ned Henry (violin); David Henry (cello); Aaron Sands (bass, percussion); Ben Mize (drums, percussion); Joe Porter (drums); Jonathan Noel, Oxford Coffee Choir (background vocals).

Freedom CDs (2000)
This Is Your Time buy CD music A mostly-instrumental album by Christian hit-maker and two-time Grammy winner Michael W. Smith, FREEDOM seems intended as a soundtrack to a movie script that, as of yet, nobody has decided to shoot. It's a lush orchestral outpouring that betrays the influences of several contemporary film composers.
There are some quite lovely piano and string sequences, such as "The Giving," that sound like Randy Newman-style Americana, and Smith occasionally comes up with Celtic airs ("Hibernia") that recall James Horner's TITANIC score. Some of the concluding tracks such as "The Call" and "Free Man," however, are more rock oriented, with wordless choral vocals and drums, and with synths or electric guitars taking the melody lines; the latter is especially reminiscent of Mark Knopfler's scores for THE PRINCESS BRIDE and LOCAL HERO.
Recorded at Deer Valley Studios, Franklin, Tennessee; Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin, Ireland; East Iris Studios, Nashville, Tennessee between May & September 2000.
Personnel: Michael W. Smith (vocals, piano, organ, keyboards, drums, programming); David Davidson (violin); John Catchings, Max Dyer (cello); Bryan Lenox (keyboards, percussion, programming); Craig Young , Matt Pierson (bass guitar); Eric Darken (drums, percussion); Chris Estes, Scott Williamson, Dan Needham (drums).
