(1 Customer Review)
CONSPIRACY #5 was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album.
Third Day's second album, Conspiracy, No. 5, is an intriguing blend of roots-rock and Christian punk. While not all of the cuts are successful, the tracks that work are dynamic, rousing and spiritual, showcasing Third Day's potential. ~ Leo Stanley

Conspiracy #5 album
$11.65 TIME was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album.
Young folk-rockers Third Day have a message of Christian faith to deliver, and like many of their contemporaries, they do it not in the gospel format, but with a radio-ready sound that wouldn't sound out of place next to Tonic, Third Eye Blind, et al. Third Day proves fully capable of bristling, highly charged roots-rock, but they're also adept at a softer ...

Conspiracy #5 CD music
$11.45 Third Day's debut album is a great introduction to this Southern Christian rock band, led by lead singer/guitarist Mac Powell. The band's style can be summarized as Hootie & the Blowfish meets Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Pearl Jam. The first album emphasizes the straight-ahead classic rock sound. It produced songs that would become Third Day concert fixtures -- like the dramatic "Thief," told from the point of view of one of the other criminals who were crucified with Jesus, the anthemic "Consuming Fire," and the sentimental "Love Song." Other good album tracks include the ballad ...
| | Jars Of Clay If I Left The Zoo CD (1999)
Conspiracy #5 music CDs
$10.39 IF I LEFT THE ZOO won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
In the '90s, groups like Jars of Clay began to address the perceived gap between Christian music and rock. For young rock/pop artists of the Christian faith, there seemed to be no happy medium until groups like this one learned how to keep the beat while keeping in close contact with their spiritual values. IF I LEFT THE ZOO proves to be a rather ambitious effort for this quartet. It opens with "Goodbye, Goodnight," an eccentric tune whose chamber string section and sophisticated harmonies recall ...

| | Fred Hammond Somethin' 'Bout Love CD (2004)
Conspiracy #5 songs
$8.99 Detroit vocalist Fred Hammond has danced skillfully on that gloriously blurred line between gospel and sweet soul music for decades, whether solo or with his group Commissioned. Hammond's knack for letting the spirit resound in his vocals has earned him a well-deserved following. The energetic SOMETHIN' 'BOUT LOVE adds to his catalogue of energetic records with a slate of inspired, groove-laden odes to salvation.
Hammond is also a skillful songwriter, co-penning most of the album's tunes, including the deft, intricate single "Celebrate ...

| | Best Of The Mike Curb Congregation CD (2004)
Conspiracy #5 CD music
$7.99 It was only a matter of time before Curb Records, the imprint of record producer (and former lieutenant governor of California) Mike Curb, turned its attention to the Mike Curb Congregation. For those who weren't around or have short memories, the Mike Curb Congregation was a large-scale singing group along lines similar to the Ray Conniff Singers but with something of a political edge, akin to the Johnny Mann Singers (remember their upbeat syndicated show Stand Up and Cheer, which aired just as Vietnam was coming to a head and America's campuses were exploding?). The latter was more a matter of nuance that anything else, mostly thanks to Curb's concurrent efforts as head of MGM Records at the end of the 1960s to single-handedly "clean up" the music business by dropping all of the drug-oriented acts from the label -- his big signing as head of the label was the Osmonds. And it meant that the Mike Curb Congregation got to make records, including appearances on several soundtrack albums (most notably Kelly's Heroes) and covers of songs derived from several MGM soundtracks. So this 29-minute CD is a bit suspect, to say the least. But -- and this is the amazing part -- in a dorky sort of way, this disc has its merits. The group sings with more visceral passion than, say, Mitch Miller & the Gang, and has a freer approach to their work than Conniff's group ever did. What's more, they weren't afraid to display a soulfulness, and do a song with an ironic twist -- hence, here in track number seven is their magnum opus, "Burning Bridges" from Kelly's Heroes, one of the most quietly ...
