Beginning with "Do You Dream of Me," a tender duet between Michael W. Smith and his longtime friend and associate, Amy Grant, THE FIRST DECADE successfully hits the high points of the Christian pop singer/songwriter/keyboardist's initial decade of recordings. While devoted CCM fans may be most pleased with Smith's blatantly faith-based tunes (see the soaring "Great Is the Lord"), his pop-leaning numbers are equally, if not more, impressive in their ability to convey spiritual concerns in a more general way, as best revealed on his poignant crossover hit, "Place in This World."

Rex is a nationally known Contra Dance/Bluegrass/Olde Timey player.Bill Gearhiser plays piano, bass, percussion, saxophone, and stereo. His favorites are ragtime and jazz piano, classical double bass, and bluegrass bass. A student of Lucille Graham, he has performed with Eugene Fodor, Victor Borge, Lorin Hollander, Gary Grafman, Pepe Romero, and Doc Severinsen, among others. He considers the most fun, though, to be playing bass with his buddies in the Hot Java Band. A devoted non-singer, Bill is \"the quiet one in the back\" and probably enjoys listening to the music more than most of the audience does.John Jay Martyn (also on CD Baby with his album \"Everyone\'s A Kid On Christmas Morning\" cdbaby.com/cd/johnjaymartyn2) plays the drum in the Hot Java Band.
