Suprisingly enough, it no longer takes an adult to perform as an adult in today's music industry, especially one filled with so much young talent. Proving that her age has no bearing on her music's maturity, R. Kelly's protege Aaliyah debuts with AGE AIN'T NOTHING BUT A NUMBER. Aaliyah complements the album's material, appealing to both R&B and hip-hop listeners, while managing to "keep it smooth with a jazz attitude."
Detroit's Aaliyah surprised the public when she succesfully hit with her first single, "Back And Forth," which found its market on the club scene. The album's other highlights are soft, mellow tunes like "At Your Best (You Are Love)," "Young Nation," "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" and "Down With The Clique." Producing all tracks, R. Kelly definitely has a `90s swing evident on this project. Also obvious is that Kelly writes all but one song, because what fifteen-year-old can drive or make love. It's no secret that R. Kelly is the mastermind behind this endearing album.

Entertainment Weekly (6/17/94, p.52) - "...Imagine En Vogue packed into one teenage body and backed by hip-hop svengali R. Kelly and produced by Kelly and Liyah's uncle Barry Hankerson. Aaliyah was very mature at 16 and sung these songs from an honest understanding of their content and musical direction.
The album is somewhat diverse in how different musical themes blend, all light, smooth R+B and a deft mix of: Soul R+B/Pop/Hip-Hop/Rap.
other artists introduced each track, but she gradually eased her way into the songs until she modestly owned them; we just know who the boss is...
the album features: Back And Forth, Age Ain't Nothing... (title track), Down With The Clique, At Your Best (written by Ron Isley), No One Knows How To Love Me Quite Like You Do, I'm So Into You and I'm Down.
This is no sample or tribute album as every song is connected by her one familiar signature Aaliyah theme: street-but-sweet.
i began my Aaliyah collection with "I Care 4 U", but had i known how good this was i would've started with this one... Submitted by delivered5898 (Los Angeles, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
You can't get no better than the classics Aaliyah in my opinion still reigns as one of the best rnb singers/entertainers of the time. Now more artists are starting to explore the different genres with a versatility she did almost a decade before. A.A.N.B.A.N represents the era of the 90's. Smooth laid back, but always funky. And did I mention smooth? A great listen. R.I.P Aaliyah. Submitted by Tez (philly, pa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

She is the best!!! Aaliyah's debut album is really something every R'n'B fan should own. Although her new album is much better, I think "Age Ain't Nothing" is a good album. The best songs are the title track and Young Nation, At Your Best You Are Love (a beautiful love song) and her debut single Back & Forth.
(Mine also includes a song called The Thing I Like. I don't know why is this song not listed here.) Submitted by a reviewer (Miskolc, Hungary) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

More of a companion piece than a follow-up to their debut, TURN! TURN! TURN! established The Byrds' place in the puzzle that was American rock & roll in the mid-'60s, but not for reasons commonly attributed to it. On the one hand, this was another batch of songs furthering the California folk-rock boom. "Turn! Turn! Turn!," the band's second (and final) number one single, was Pete Seeger's musical interpretation of proverbs from the Book Of Ecclesiastes; "Oh Susannah" was a 19th century minstrels' tune; "He Was A Friend Of Mine" was a folk standard; and, as was a norm for the early Byrds, there were a couple of Bob Dylan songs.
Yet the application of The Byrds' sound to these long-known songs gave each of them a new, wholly different life. "He Was A Friend Of Mine" included additional Roger McGuinn lyrics that allude to John F. Kennedy's assassination, turning a mournful standard into a personalized declaration. "Oh! Susannah" was updated at a break-neck rock & roll tempo. The title track became a snapshot, evoking the turbulent '60s as much ...

| | Skip James Hardtime Killing Floor Blues CD (2005) Remastered
Age Ain't Nothing But A Number music CDs
$10.15 Hard Time Killin' Floor isn't the first Skip James collection, and one could bet it will not be the last. But Hard Time Killin' Floor makes a pretty good argument for itself: the hour-and-six-minute album holds all of James' early work, and it's been remastered. James' soulful vocal style, like Robert Johnson's, has often been noted, but his quick picking style is also distinctive. "I'm So Glad" is performed at an up-tempo, breakneck pace, and the finger work will leave the listener dizzy. The title cut, on the other hand, has a slow, lazy quality, with the blue notes of the guitar matching the singer's mournful cry. James was somewhat unique among blues guitarists in that he also played piano. His spunky gospel style is on full display on songs like "How Long Buck" and the bizarrely titled "Little ...
