(8 Customer Reviews)
On ALL THAT I AM, Joe offers 12 tracks of slow, smooth R&B stylings, with diverse arrangements and creative performance, all centered around the breathy, earnest voice of Joe Thomas. In addition to his multi-tracked vocal arrangements, Joe also makes substantial keyboard, programming, and production contributions.
Lyrically, the album ranges from the swaggering bravado of "The Love Scene" to the emotional vulnerability of "No One Else Comes Close." Not wanting to fall back on R&B cliches, Joe opts for a fresher metaphor--"I hear he' s got you in lockdown, but I got the master key" ["All The Things (Your Man Won't Do)"]. ALL THAT I AM features some impressive production tricks including the reverse loop intro to "U Shoulda Told Me (U had A Man)," the flanged vocal effects of "Don't Wanna Be A Player" and exotic instrumental samples throughout.

All That I Am
$8.99 MY NAME IS JOE was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and "I Wanna Know" was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Packed with songs produced by such talents as ALLSTAR ("Table For Two"), She'kspere ("Get Crunk Tonight") and Teddy Riley ("Stutter"), MY NAME IS JOE showcases Joe's remarkable dynamic range and delivery. The singer's third album delivers such superb, memorable songs as "I Wanna Know," and "I Believe in You," another song produced by ALLSTAR, this one featuring 'N Sync.
One of the most respected, sought-after performers in R&B, Joe has little competition among his peers. MY NAME IS JOE is one of those rare albums where an artist exceeds his audience's expectations.
Engineers include: Ted Wohlsen, George Meyers, Angelo Quaglia.

| | LSG Levert Sweat Gill CD (1997)
All That I Am
$10.79 Having had staggering success in the R&B world on their own, Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill united their prodigious talents on LEVERT-SWEAT-GILL. Levert has a proven track record, both as a solo artist and with his group Levert. Keith Sweat has made his mark both as a performer and as a producer. Johnny Gill first found stardom at 16 with the legendary New Edition, parlaying that group's success into a stellar solo career.
At home on either side of the mixing desk, they were able to take complete control of the project, as performers, producers and as writers. This is not to say they didn't enlist some fellow superstars to contribute--guest producers include Sean "Puffy" Combs ("You Got Me," which features rap group The Lox) and Jermaine Dupri ("Where Did I Go Wrong"). LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, and MC Lyte appear on "Curious," and "All The Times" features the talents of Faith Evans and Missy Elliot, but the lighthearted ...
| | K-Ci & JoJo Love Always CD (1997)
All That I Am
$12.95 "All My Life" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and Best R&B Song.
While this dynamic, Jodeci-originated R&B duo have made their reputation as kings of sensual, even erotic, R&B, leaving no doubt as to the main topic on their collective mind, LOVE ALWAYS finds them pulling back the hedonistic reins a bit. The approach here is much more subtle, and at the same time, more romantic. In sharp contrast to their hardcore days of yore, there's an almost spiritual quality that comes through here, and the music is the richer for it. Naturally, the Hailey Brothers still possess the same authoritative vocal ...
| | Dru Hill CD (1996)
All That I Am
$9.69 Dru Hill is a new-jack soul quartet that follows mentor Keith Sweat's lead on its debut album. Paeans to Herculean late-night exploits and calls of soul-cleaning devotion are interspersed over old-fashioned soul licks, delivered with modern R&B technology. At times, as on "Tell Me," the low and high roads to a heart co-mingle in a fashion that would make Prince envious. But Dru Hill seldom reaches the Minneapolitan's funky musical raunch. Instead, Sisqo, Woody, Nokio and Jazz choose to be smooth like butter: all rich harmonies, laid-back finger snaps and synthesized harps.
Additional personnel includes: Triip (rap vocals); Nate-Love, Ralph B. Stacy (various instruments); Frank Camdel (guitar); Kim Jordan, Stanley Brown, Benjamin ...
| | Dru Hill Enter The Dru CD (1998)
All That I Am
$7.59 On their sophomore effort, Sisqo, Nokio, Woody and Jazz drop another gem. Following up on their 1996 debut, ENTER THE DRU finds Dru Hill delivering the same cutting-edge R&B that has made them a worldwide success. Contributions from some of the most talented contemporary writers and producers make ENTER THE DRU a hard album to resist. Super-hitmaker Babyface co-wrote and co-produced the first single, "These Are the Times," while David Foster co-produced the Diane Warren ballad "What Do I Do With The Love." Wu-Tang's Method Man flips a verse on "This Is What We Do."
There are plenty of trademark Dru Hill ballads such as "One Good Reason," "I'll Be The One' and "What Are We Gonna Do." Be sure to check out the Daryl Simmons-produced "The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind)," which is a cover of a classic Dells song. With the huge success of their debut album, one can imagine the inherent difficulty in following it up. ENTER ...
