Principally recorded at Rock Land Studios, Chicago, Illinois.
"I Wish" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Few people have ever bought an R. Kelly record for its sophisticated lyrical innuendo, and on TP-2.COM Kelly offers more of the unabashedly carnal mack-daddy R&B that made him a pinup in the '90s. It's clear from the outset that Kelly means business, as the opening tune finds him declaring that he's "horny as hell" and "it's about to get kinky."
Over the sensual slow jam of "Strip for You," he informs his lady that he's about to put himself at her service. On the delicate, lushly orchestrated "The Greatest Sex," he similarly abjures metaphor with a straightforwardness that somehow turns quirky a la Prince. However, there's enough variety in the instrumental twists and turns of the album to keep things from sounding too monochromatic. "Like a Real Freak" is a perfect example, as Kelly's no-nonsense sex talk is framed by delicate flamenco guitar work.

it's not twelveplay, but it's better than tp3, not as shallo in all honesty, r. kelly detractors have every right to say his lyrics are shallow, unnecessarily pornographic and even kinda cheezy. but those who know anything about contemperary r 'n' b have just as much of a right to dub r. kelly the undesputed king of contemporary r 'n' b. my personal opinion is that he in fact is.
this album has its moments and there are in fact many of them. the first five tracks promise an incredible LP, but from track six to eleven/twelve, things get a little monotonous and boring. why? let's just say that the blatently sexual lyrics are not the reason why, it's more the generic instrumentation although like a real freak does have a wicked intro. chocolate factory's ignition remix is everything fiesta shudda been. The album then redemes itself with tracks like I wish, both original and remix, and also jems like i decided and the wickedly adictive feelin' on yo booty which uses the same lame water drop noise as later r. kelly work, but it works here as it does with at least some of the content on 2005's tp.3 reloaded. To finish things off, the album ends with the second best r. kelly sing along song next to I believe i can fly, the adictive repenting the storm is over now. seriously, you get enough people together, you can belt that number out in eleven part harmony, no foolin'. so all up, not the best album he's released, but it certainly is far from weak. tp3 reloaded was weaker, but still had pulling power. this is the most substantial album of the twelve play series. #1 fan of da man! By far, this is no doubt the best cd R.Kelly has made. Every cut is a banger. You have to have your ears check if you don't like this album. Anyone that doesn't, is a hater. They can come and see me! Submitted by Mike Jones (St. Louis, MO via Flint, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not Good There is not a single good song on this album. Sad, but true. It's just the same recycled garbage from R. Check out the older better albums. Submitted by KM (upstate NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
