| | Coasters Greatest Hits CD Coasters Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Sure, Greatest Hits contains the familiar Coasters items -- "Yakety Yak," "Charlie Brown," "Searchin'," "Poison Ivy," "Young Blood" -- but the sound is terrible, and worst of all, these sound suspiciously like re-recordings. Pass this by in favor of Rhino's midline The Very Best of the Coasters. It may cost a couple dollars more, but it contains all of the hits in their original incarnations. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Coasters Greatest Hits Songs Greatest Hits Music Review Purchase Greatest Hits CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Top Hits Of The Sixties: Amazing Hits CD (2003)

| | Rock & Roll The First 50 Years: The Early 60'S CD (2004)
Greatest Hits CD music
$13.79 There's nothing too obscure or thematically ambitious about this compilation: it's just a 25-song collection of Top Tenners from 1960-63, taken from all corners of the pop-rock spectrum. Maybe it's too predictable for some listeners, particularly collectors who are likely to have much or all of this somewhere else in their library. But on its own terms, it's very good, and in its own way a demonstration that the early '60s were far from a desert for creative rock'n'roll, spawning their share of both great classics and hits that, if not classic, were at least pretty fun. As far as great classics, this disc gives you ...

| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Greatest Hits songs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration ...
| | Luther Vandross This Is Christmas CD (1995)
Greatest Hits album
$6.39 This stellar 1995 Christmas album is not your typical release of holiday standards. In fact, Luther helped pen most of the songs on this album. His originals include the excellent "With a Christmas Heart," "This Is Christmas," and "A Kiss for Christmas." But for those with an allegiance to the standards, "My Favorite Things" and "O' Come All Ye Faithful" are duly included among these 10 lovely tracks. Well-known bassist/arranger/producer Marcus Miller plays on some of the tracks, while well-coifed '80s rock balladeer Richard Marx co-wrote "Every Year, Every Christmas." For R&B fans, ...

| | Roger Hodgson In The Eye Of The Storm CD (1984) Import
Greatest Hits songs
$13.95 Vocalist/guitarist Roger Hodgson must have really felt stifled toward the end of his tenure in Supertramp in the early '80s -- despite co-writing and singing many of the band's biggest hits -- because his solo debut, 1984's In the Eye of the Storm, is a remarkable work of explosive creativity. Hodgson wrote, sang, arranged, and produced In the Eye of the Storm, but the real kicker is the fact that he played every instrument himself, with a few exceptions such as drums and fretless bass guitar on a few cuts. As a result, In the Eye of the Storm is easily the best synthesis of pop and progressive rock since, well, prime Supertramp. ...

| | Kool & The Gang Gold CDs (2005) Remastered
Greatest Hits album
$15.39 Believe it or not, Gold is the first compilation with U.S. distribution to provide a fair and rather thorough glance at Kool & the Gang's career from 1969 through 1987. Dozens upon dozens of other sets either focus on one of the group's distinct eras or attempt clumsily to appease those who want "Jungle Boogie" and "Joanna" in one spot. The Chronicles catalog division of Mercury realized that roughly 90 percent of Kool & the Gang's chart hits can fit neatly on two discs, so this is an ideal package for casual fans who can appreciate raw '70s funk and slick, radio-friendly '80s R&B. It would be impossible ...
