| | Rosemary Clooney White Christmas CD Rosemary Clooney Discography of CDs
This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Includes liner notes by Nick Clooney, Glen Barros, Dolores Hope and Bob Hope.
Although Rosemary Clooney had a major part in the famous film White Christmas back in 1954, this was her first full Christmas album and it was a big seller when it was released late in 1996. From the jazz standpoint, there is not much here, as Clooney is accompanied by a huge orchestra conducted and mostly arranged by Peter Matz. Although there are a few brief solos from altoist Gary Foster, tenor saxophonist Dan Higgins, trombonist Chauncey Welsch and trumpeter Warren Luening, the music is essentially nostalgic middle-of-the-road pop with Clooney joined on several numbers by the Earl Brown Singers (who also take brief a cappella versions of some veteran Christmas tunes); one tune apiece features appearances by Michael Feinstein and Rosemary's brother Nick Clooney. But jazz content aside, Rosemary Clooney is in good voice, and the heartfelt emotions that she expresses on these Yuletide favorites communicate quite well. ~ Scott Yanow

Rosemary Clooney White Christmas Songs White Christmas Music Review ROSEMARY CLOONEY WAS THE BEST! Rosemary Clooney, one of the world's greatest singers of all time brought a special magic to Christmas songs that's never been matched. She delivered the often poignant lyrics of these songs in a uniquely heartfelt manner that created a vivid image with exactly the writer's intent. She was a quintisentially American treasure who lives on through her wonderful music and through the inspiration of her indefatigable spirit. It's more than just journalistic shorthand to refer to Kylie Minogue as the European Madonna. She's been at it as long as the Material Girl, and her mix of sexy style and dance-pop sound is very much in league with that of her American counterpart. The catch here is that, while Minogue had previously only been a star in Europe, FEVER represents her American breakthrough. Not surprisingly, the sound of FEVER will appeal to fans of Madonna's MUSIC album. It's full of bubbly synths, amiably poppy melodies, club beats and sensual vocal stylings. If anything, Minogue ...
| | Barbra Streisand Duets CD (2002) Remastered
White Christmas
$7.59 DUETS is a compilation of duets and contains a new duet recording with Barry Manilow, "I Won't Be The One Let Go".
Barbra Streisand's long and varied career is the stuff of legend, as the actress/director/songstress consistently takes chances, never content to rest on her laurels. DUETS, a collection of her collaborations, reflects this wide-sweeping talent, amassing tracks from every facet of Streisand's career. DUETS includes partnerships with stars of pop, country, soul, disco, rock, songwriters of a bygone era, and stars of Broadway and opera. It boasts a track from probably the most famous record to bear the same title (Frank Sinatra's DUETS), a live duet with Dorothy herself culled from a 1963 episode of the Judy Garland Show, and the underappreciated mellow-cool "Guilty" with Bee Gee Barry Gibb.
Number One hits with Neil Diamond and Donna Summer sit alongside less remembered alliances with Celine Dion and Kim Carnes. ...

| | '70S Soul Sessions CD (2004)
White Christmas
$8.59 The two-CD '70s Soul Sessions is an odd mixture of '70s soul hits, cult favorites, and downright obscurities that'll only be familiar to serious collectors. That gives it a weird, varying value to its prospective audience. Said serious collectors will be put off by the presence of so many big hits that they already have (probably several times over, in some cases). More intro-level fans of '70s soul might be either delightfully surprised to come across cool tracks they had no idea existed, or disappointed by the lack of more of those big smashes. So it's something of a neither-here-nor-there proposition, but the music's pretty solid on the whole, if kind of erratic in both style and quality. Big hits? There's Betty Wright's "Clean Up Woman," Freda Payne's "Band of Gold," Chairmen of the Board's "Give Me Just a Little More Time," Al Wilson's "Show & Tell," the Three Degrees' "When Will I See You Again," the O'Jays' "Backstabbers," Isaac Hayes' "Never Can Say Goodbye," Honey Cone's "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show," the Chi-Lites' "Have You Seen Her," Billy Paul's "Me & Mrs. Jones," and Al Green's "Sha La La (Make Me Happy)" -- classics all. Cult favorites? How about Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street," the theme to a blaxploitation movie hardly anyone's seen, or Gil Scott-Heron's "The Bottle," one of the jazz-soul-poet's most hard-hitting ...
