4 stars A different take on Christmas
For those fed up of endless Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole festive songs, this offering from jazz giant Scott Hamilton is an excellent way to keep in the Christmas spirit musically. Hamilton brings new life to some worn out Christmas material with his gentle sax. If there is a criticism, it's that the Mantovaniish strings get in the way at times, and push the album into Percy Faith style cheesy listening rather than cool jazz improvisation. Well worth a listen, especially for Christmas parties
