| | Fat Music Vol. 2: Survival Of The Fattest CD
Survival of the Fattest is one of the many periodic samplers put out by Fat Wreck Chords with the aim of enticing consumers to acquaint themselves with the label's roster by offering a great deal of music from as many of their artists as possible, at a very low price. As a listen, Survival of the Fattest is somewhat inconsistent, since not all of the bands on the label are at the same level, but there are quite a few catchy moments that will most likely interest punk and ska fans in checking out some of these groups further. Some of the artists here include NOFX, Good Riddance, Lag Wagon, Frenzal Rhomb, No Use for a Name, SNuff, and Diesel Boy. ~ Steve Huey Fat Music Vol. 2: Survival Of The Fattest Music Fat Music Vol. 2: Survival Of The Fattest Songs Fat Music Vol. 2: Survival Of The Fattest Music Fat Music Vol. 2: Survival Of The Fattest Review

$14.75 This release chronicles the return of the Fugs to the performance stage, which ironically began in 1984 at the height of Ronald Reganmania. However, if Refuse To Be Burnt-Out proves anything, the lesson is that it might be possible to take a freak out of the `60s . but you can never take the `60s out of a freak. The `80s Fugs features original ...

| | John Stewart Havana CD (2003)
Fat Music Vol. 2: Survival Of The Fattest music CDs
$12.25 Havana ranks among John Stewart's best albums, which is saying a good deal, since he has released more than 40 -- many of them excellent -- in a career that dates all the way back to 1961. His first new studio recording in five years, Havana features an eclectic mix of 15 folk-tinged ballads and spirited rockers, all but one by Stewart. (The sole non-original is the standard "Lucky Old Sun," which proves a perfect match for the singer's world-weary baritone.) The lyrics -- some personal, some political -- hit their marks more often than not and are frequently poignant ("Waiting for Castro to Die" and the terrific "Cowboy in the Distance") or funny. ("Attention Kmart shoppers," Stewart begins one song, "Do you really need all of that crap?") Not every lyric works: While clearly heartfelt, a tribute to Stewart's wife ("Miracle Girl") is cliché ridden; "Davey on the Internet" is fun but nonsensical; and songs about rock & roll and Princess Diana all fall short in their effort to say something profound. But the melodies and vocals are consistently strong on this CD. So is the instrumentation, which is mostly by Stewart, who plays guitars, banjo, bass, keyboards, percussion, and harmonica. Even when a lyric occasionally falls short, therefore, ...

Fat Music Vol. 2: Survival Of The Fattest album
$8.69 Mary Joye Kilroy, a Florida native, grew up on the beach and literally spent her entire childhood in bathing suits or cowboy boots. She crossed one bridge and was in cow and horse country. A lot of people don't realize that Florida has cattle and rodeos. She is married to a fifth generation rancher. Most folks just think about the beaches. Mary had an interesting career in show business before becoming a Christian Country singer. After graduating from the University Of Florida in 1979 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater, she was asked to tour with the rock group KISS as a makeup and wardrobe artist for three years. She often played and sang country songs in the dressing rooms and decided to cut a demo of songs she had written. This demo started her musical career. Mary has performed in many venues and as an opening act. She also sang demos. She wrote and performed voice-overs for XM Satellite Radio on the former Hank's Place and had her own show as THE TENDER TIGER (otherwise known as The Double T. Mary acted in over 50 commercials, industrial films, music videos, and stage productions. She wrote and sang a jingle for Texaco. After moving to Nashville, Mary sang with Christ Church choir for five years and was a soloist. They were known for their work with the Gaithers. Through her involvement in rodeo, she performed at many of the Fellowship ...
