| | Screeching Weasel Television City Dream CD (1998)
Swingin' Utters CD music
$11.39 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
The second re-group of Screeching Weasel comes across more as a bunch of studio musicians wanting to make a buck rather than a bunch of kids getting together for the sheer enjoyment of writing and recording anthems for the angst filled generation. Not saying that Screeching Weasel are a bunch of has-beens, it's just that Ben Weasel and company give off that "screw the ...
| | Filthy Thieving Bastards Melody Of Retreads & Broken Quills... CD (2001)
Swingin' Utters music CDs
$11.65 The country punks in the Filthy Thievin' Bastards blend the energetic bounce of the Pogues and the gruff self-reflection of Social Distortion on A Melody of Retreads and Broken Quills. By adding former Camper Van Beethoven guitarist Greg Lisher to the mix, the band captures the grizzled campfire vibe they only hinted at on their earlier EP. The performances have a more rounded feel to them, no doubt because the lineup utilizes several instruments that complement the genre quite well. Singer Johnny Bonnel's lazy, cigarette-scarred voice is the perfect vehicle for the world-weary lyrics he and guitarist Darius Koski wrote for this project. They show a healthy ideology and write about a lifestyle that rarely is paired with the old-fashioned Celtic approach the band takes. Tracks like "Death Is Not the End" reflect a modest sense of self-reliance and confidence that emphasizes positive thinking and a healthy ego without coming off as preachy. Bonnel shows a real talent for writing clever, Elvis Costello-esque lines ...
| | Best Of Faces: Good Boys...When They're Asleep CD (1999)
Swingin' Utters songs
$8.59 Recorded between 1970 and 1975. Includes liner notes by Dave Marsh.
This best-of collection celebrates all the endearing strengths of the Faces. After the Small Faces lost founder Steve Marriott, they shortened their name and added the lanky duo of Rod Stewart and Ron Wood. Their four studio albums were released in three years at the beginning of the '70s. The band combined a bracing mix of confidence and innocence, as well as the casual abandon of their playing and songwriting smarts. The Faces toured constantly, making the stage their home, and in between tours they'd record their albums, then get right back out on the road.
This set culls the wonderful highlights from those albums along with a few selections from their short tenure after Ronnie Lane departed ...
