For a band whose members are known for not taking themselves too seriously, THE DECLINE is a serious affair. If such a genre exists, "progressive punk" would be the best way to describe the single, 18-plus-minute track that makes up this EP. There are drastic lyrical shifts in THE DECLINE. Cynical tongue-in-cheek prose gives way to warnings concerning the glorification of violence. What follows is a diatribe covering the hypocrisy of the judicial system, the mind-numbing effects of television, and the loss of integrity. The conceptual thread that seems to connect it all is a general apathy in the collective consciousness of America, as Fat Mike sings, "The going gets tough / the tough get debt / don't pay attention / pay the rent / our next of kins pays for your sins." NOFX has delivered its rallying cry for independent thought, and it is THE DECLINE.

GREATNESS. The last reviewer pretty much said it. This cd is great. Not for just NOFX fans, for anyone. The lyrics, the sound, everything about this cd is great. If you don't buy it you're stupid. Submitted by SCXpunk (St. Louis, MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | NOFX White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean CD (1992)
Decline CD music
$9.89 NOFX preceded the 1990s explosion of bubblegum pop-punk by nearly a decade (they formed in '83). But with the addition of guitarist Aaron Abeyta (who goes by the moniker El Hefe), the band emerged near the top of the heap, churning out consistently fun, well-constructed rock with plenty of punch. 1992's WHITE TRASH, TWO HEEBS AND A BEAN marks the Abeyta incarnation of NOFX, and is one of the band's better efforts, overflowing with catchy hooks, air-tight playing, and satiric, silly humor.
The music favors jackhammer bass and drums, searing guitar leads, and crunchy power chords over sneering but melodic vocals. But NOFX distances itself from most punk acts with light, tongue-in-cheek attitude. Playful stylistic mix-ups, like the jazzy, faux-lounge treatment of Minor Threat's "Straight Edge," or the ska-flavored "Johnny Appleseed" (sung in a goofy accent by El Hefe), are paramount. "Please Play This Song on the Radio," the album's single, is a self-referential plea for commercial ...
| | NOFX So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes CD (1997)
Decline music CDs
$10.59 So Long & Thanks for All the Shoes finds NOFX sliding away from their strengths and turning out a nearly undistinguished collection of rote, by-the-books latter-day punk. Part of the problem is the flat, processed sound of the album, which simply fails to capture the group's fiery, energetic stage presence. That ...

$9.89 Along with other California third-wave punk bands like NOFX and MXPX, Pennywise came to fame in the '90s as a major part of the skater/extreme sports milieu. Though the Offspring had more financial success with a pretty similar sound, Pennywise always had the market cornered in terms of street cred with the skater kids. By the time of STRAIGHT AHEAD's ...

$10.29 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
PUMP UP THE VALUUM is just one more episode in NoFx's perfectly arrested development. The band begins its umpteenth album with a perfect introduction, "And Now For Something Completely Similar," a play on the old Monty Python line; NoFx's greatest asset lies in its ability to stick to its guns and avoid the pressure to mature, or even mutate.
On PUMP UP THE VALUUM, Fat Mike and the gang are still writing brilliantly bratty two-minute punk rants about authority figures, the system, ...
| | Muddy Waters Folk Singer CD (1964) Remastered
Decline CD music
$8.49 Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24-karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
"You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had" and "The Same Thing" did not appear on the original version of FOLK SINGER. They were recorded at a separate session in April 1964, three months after FOLK SINGER was released.
The title and cover photo of this 1963 recording were an attempt to cash in on the burgeoning American folk revival, but this is pure acoustic blues. Muddy began his career as a Robert Johnson-style solo acoustic performer, and the tunes on FOLK SINGER hark back to those days. He's accompanied sparsely by Willie Dixon, drummer Clifton James and a young Buddy Guy, who provide a stark, deliberate backdrop for Muddy's rich vocal and expressive bottleneck guitar work. The richness of Muddy's baritone is showcased effectively here, with more room than usual for his voice to resonate.
The low-key setting allows Muddy to explore a fuller dynamic range as well. From the romantic yearning of "Long Distance Call" to the fatalism of the chain ...

After the untimely death of former enigmatic vocalist Bon Scott, AC/DC finally chanced upon a worthy replacement in the shape of former Geordie frontman, Brian Johnson. The result was more than the formal pastiche some expected, with Johnson stamping his own personality, not to mention distinctive rasp, on the record. The band's staple lyrical diet of sex and the general pursuit of happiness, ...

$8.99 While the archivists at Smithsonian Folkways can get downright scholarly when it comes to music, this fine compilation seeks to be the opposite--just a stomping, fun good time, Americana-style. Essentially a party mix culled from the Smithsonian back catalog, the track list here includes bouncy Texan conjunto from Mingo Saldivar, wildcat Western swing from Gary Wills, Memphis Slim's infectiously joyful boogie-woogie piano, danceable jump-blues from Erbie Bowser, swingin' Cajun from Balfa Toujours, and other upbeat, rootsy styles.
