Curtis Ousley, known to the world as tenor saxophonist King Curtis, cut these tasty tracks for the Enjoy record label in 1962 with a session band billed as "the Noble Knights." Because the Twist was really "in," the entire session has an irrepressible R&B-to-rock & roll quality perfectly suitable for freeway driving, food preparation, dancing, drinking, casual sex and moderate substance abuse. If any of these activities lead to trouble simply blame it on the band, for in addition to the King's beefy tenor sax there are solidly exciting tones from electric bassist Jimmy Lewis, electric guitarist Billy Butler, pianist George Stubbs, drummer Ray Lucas, groove organist Ernie Hayes and, on "Camp Meeting," harmonica man Buddy Lucas. In addition to a soulful vocal on "I Know," King Curtis does his best Ray Charles impersonation during part one of "What'd I Say"; part two is a lively throw-down instrumental jam, as is the funky "Hot Potatoes," also known as "Home Cookin'." Most certainly some of the hottest dance music heard in the U.S.A. during the Cuban Missile Crisis. ~ arwulf arwulf

Enjoy...The Best Of album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.

| | Poco Forgotten Trail (1969-74) CDs (1990)
Enjoy...The Best Of CD music
$15.29 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. From the classic anthem "Pickin' Up the Pieces," which kicks things off, through "You Better Think Twice," "C'mon," "Kind Woman," "From the Inside," "A Good Feelin' to Know," "Crazy Eyes," and on and on, this is wonderful music, ahead of its time in many ways. If Poco had arrived on the scene in the early '90s, they would have been kings of the country charts. Of course, without Poco, country music wouldn't have taken on the rock ...

| | Brian Olive CD (2009)
Enjoy...The Best Of songs
$12.05 Brian Olive used to deliver potent garage rock guitar with the Greenhornes and blues-punk sax hollering with the Soledad Brothers, but he's expanded his sonic palette in a big way on his first solo album. Most of the tunes on BRIAN OLIVE are rooted in rhythm & blues in one way or another, but the man sure isn't shy about showing how many ways he can bend the sound to his will; "Stealin'" is a funky New Orleans second-line shuffle, "Jubilee Line" has a bassline James Jamerson would have been happy to call his own fortified with free jazz sax wailing, "High Low" reveals echoes of 1950s cool jazz for bachelor pads, and "Killing Stone" is a piano-based rocker that recalls the early-'70s Rolling Stones. Olive also dips his toes into breezy faux-tropicalia on the ...
