| | Best Of Lin/Kliff Records: Rockabilly CD
This 18-song compilation is a good compromise for anyone who doesn't want to spend $100 on the Bear Family The Lin & Kliff Story box. The music, by David Ray ("Jitterbugging Baby," "Lonesome Baby Blues"), Steve Wright ("Wild, Wild Woman," "Far and Distant Lands"), the Chuck-a-Lucks ("Disc Jockey Fever"), Buck Griffin ("Pretty Lou"), Andy Starr ("Dirty Bird Song," "Lover Man," "Do It Right"), the Jokers ("Dogfight"), Don Terry ("Knees Shakin'"), et. al, almost all rocks hard and fast, with hardly any let-up (apart from "Far and Distant Lands" and "Lover Man") in the pacing. And this is the easiest way for the curious to discover uncanny Buddy Holly soundalike Ray Ruff ("I Took a Liking to You"), who came to Lin Records after leaving Holly's former producer, Norman Petty. One minor drawback is the sound, which is decent but not remotely as impressive as the Bear Family material, and the notes, which are sketchy about most of the talent represented here. ~ Bruce Eder
Personnel: Andy Starr (vocals).

Best Of Lin/Kliff Records: Rockabilly
$7.85 Spurred on by George Bush's unofficial adoption of "God Bless the USA" as the new American anthem, Lee Greenwood recorded American Patriot in the midst of the President's (ultimately unsuccessful) re-election campaign in 1992. American Patriot sealed Greenwood's stance as American songteller extraordinaire. Every song on the album is, unsurprisingly, about America, from "The Pledge of Allegiance" and "The Star Spangled Banner" to "God Bless America" and "God Bless the USA." Of course, Woody Guthrie's populist anthem "This ...

$13.65 Chris Staig:Has won praises for his solo recordings, and for his work with other performers.Used to play guitar for a bagpipe funk band called Taxi Chain. Way back in the mid nineties when one could play 3 nights a week in bars and not starve. Even if there was a bagpiper in your band.Made two solo CDs he's proud of. Deeper We'll Dream (2000) caused Kurt Swinghammer to call Staig "surprise local discovery of the year" and The Toronto Sun to call him "a song writing Charles Atlas". Songwriter Jonathan Seet best summed up Staig's second CD, Death of Romance, as "damn f**** straight, man". Both ...
