This double-disc set brings together the first two albums by California blues-rock outfit Pacific Gas & Electric. Led by soul belter Charlie Allen and former James Gang guitar wizard Glenn Beck, the band played a mix of R&B covers and originals, heavy on showmanship and west coast groove. Though PC&G 's music might not have been quite as interesting as the drama that surrounded them (which included born-again proselytizing and cult deprogramming), they were a solid unit capable of turning out heavy blues on par with the biggest names of the day.

SOUL !!! GREAT SOUL MUSIC !! Submitted by yannos (ATHENS, GREECE) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great, but Not Their Best This double album is great, but lacks the punch and stinging guitar solos that their first album "Get It On" had. Another reviewer asks where is the song "Motor City Burning" and that song is on the first album. This album is worth owning if only for the soulful ballad "Death Row 172", one of Charlie's best songs. It's too bad he died before his time, he had one of the best voices for blues-rock ever. "My Women" and "She's Long, She's Tall" are real show-off songs for Charlie. Glenn Schwartz plays one of the best guitars ever, his on-string vibrato is so well done. His PG & E suite is a nice touch. If you do not have this album, by it and keep trying to find their first album, it is excellent. something is missing As I remenber the album "are you ready" had a song called Motor city is burning. The best song of the album. Why is it not on this double album. Is it that I had too many drugs and can't remember what was on the album. Submitted by Georgi (Virginia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Glenn Schwartz amazing! This is an excellent album, especially noteworthy is the lead guitar player Glenn Schwartz. His virtuosity is unparalleled and it is easy to hear why he was so respected among his peers. Jimi Hendrix was a fan of Glenn's remarkable talent. In fact you can hear Glenn's licks in some of Jimi's music.I would recommend this album without any reservations. Submitted by David H. (Conneaut, OH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Though 1974's ELDORADO is subtitled "A Symphony by the Electric Light Orchestra" and features both a portentous spoken-word prologue and an instrumental finale, this album marks Jeff Lynne's final break from classical-rock fusion in the Emerson, Lake & Palmer sense. Though there're a handful of recognizable lifts from classical and romantic composers, particularly in the swelling opening of "Boy Blue" and the grandly-titled "Illusions in G Major," most of the orchestral arrangements here are in service to Lynne's increasingly accomplished pop songs. One of those is "Can't Get It Out of My Head," a classic '70s pop ballad and FM radio staple that's among Lynne's very best work. Though this was the only hit single on ...
| | Cordelia's Dad What It Is CD (2002)
Are You Ready/Pacific Gas & Electric
$15.19 While just a basic trio, Cordelia's Dad compose a far greater and larger sound than imagined, moving from the early alternative rock of the '90s Seattle scene with a tablespoon of jazz and R.E.M. traces on "Upswing," a moody and winding track. "Inhaler" recalls Canadian cult rockers the Tragically Hip, a mix of jazz ideas on a slow tension-building arrangement. Lead songwriter Tim Eriksen has a downbeat vocal ability, like Dave Matthews and Michael Stipe, particularly on ...

| | Liza Minnelli When It Comes Down To It: 1968-1977 CD (2004)
Are You Ready/Pacific Gas & Electric
$18.09 "Forget Cabaret," proposes Australian music journalist Glenn A. Baker at the outset of his liner notes to When It Comes Down to It: 1968-1977, Raven Records' Liza Minnelli compilation. Baker, who also conceived and compiled the album, thus sets forward the contrarian view of Minnelli's career that his selections from some of her studio albums of the late '60s and '70s explore. He complains that most accounts of her give short shrift to this material, which interests him because of its connection to Australian singer/songwriter Peter Allen, her first husband, and other singer/songwriters of the period, such as Randy Newman, who is tapped for the first four tracks. Although Minnelli came up as a Broadway stage star and nightclub performer in the mid-'60s, as a recording artist she faced the same problem as the generation of singers including her mother, Judy Garland, in that period. With the onset of the Beatles and Bob Dylan, such singers, endlessly recycling the works of Cole Porter and George Gershwin, were rendered commercially marginal. The solution many record executives hit upon was to have these singers record the songs of the new young songwriters. ...
