Collectables' reissue of Oh Lonesome Me contains the original track listing, which boasts hits like "Oh Lonesome Me," "Bad, Bad Day" and "I Can't Stop Lovin' You," and it adds several singles as bonus tracks, which only enhances a collection that was pretty great to begin with. There's some filler on the record, but it contains a number of gems among its lesser-known songs. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Personnel: Don Gibson (vocals, guitar).

Oh Lonesome Me
$7.95 Recorded between 1961 & 1963. Includes liner notes by Jay Orr and Don Roy.
Recorded between 1960 & 1963. Originally released on Decca (DL7-4854). Includes liner notes by Jay Orr and Don Roy.
When Patsy Cline died in a plane cash in the early '60s she was at the top of her career, a star in both country and pop music. To this day, she is revered as the queen of country music.
Patsy's voice is the epitome of torch singing--emotional, yet distant enough from the flame not to get burned. Her superb voice, with its catches, chokes and soaring notes, changed the course of country and western music, and defined the new direction of female country artists.
Even non-coutry fans appreciate such legendary performances as the seamless, upbeat "Walking After Midnight"; the ultra-torchy "Sweet Dreams"; the swaying ballad "She's Got You"; Willie Nelson's bluesy "Crazy"; the bouncy "Back In Baby's Arms"; the definitive "I Fall To Pieces"...and the hits just go on and on and on.
Ironically, Cline, who considered herself a cowgirl, hated her ...
| | Dean Martin Happy In Love / Like Never Before CD (2005)
Oh Lonesome Me
$11.95 When Dean Martin signed with Reprise Records in 1961 after a long tenure with Capitol, his old label may not have thought it was losing much, with rock & roll on the rise and old-school vocalists like Martin fading in popularity. But to the surprise of many, Martin became even more popular through the 1960s, and "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime" managed to nudge the Beatles from the top of the singles chart in 1964. As Dino's star continued to rise, Capitol kept his old albums for the label in print and between 1965 and 1967 put together four LPs of rare singles and unreleased tracks that were quietly released through its affiliated label Tower Records. Those four albums have become coveted collector's items among Martin fans, and Collectors Choice has finally given them their CD debut on a pair of two-fer reissues. Happy in Love is, as you'd expect, a collection of love songs, and while Martin is game on all ten tunes, the songs are not always up to his usual standards, though fans will be pleasantly surprised to find one track, "Rue de Mon Amour (Street of Love)," which was co-written by Dino, and "I'm Gonna Paper All My Walls With Your Love Letters" closes out the album on a rollicking note. And Dino ...
| | Dean Martin Winter Romance CD (1959)
Oh Lonesome Me
$11.79 A Winter Romance is perhaps best described as a "seasonal" album rather than a Christmas or holiday release, despite the inclusion of such familiar fare as "White Christmas" and "Winter Wonderland." Dean Martin has also included such standards as "The Things We Did Last Summer" and "June in January," as well as some specially written material such as Sammy Cahn and Ken Lane's title song and "It Won't Cool Off." Nevertheless, with its lush strings, well-scrubbed vocal choruses and buoyant mood, this collection has an appropriately festive feel. Martin does a competent job, even having fun here and there when the song allows him to present his take on a similar baritone (Bing Crosby on "White Christmas," Vaughn Monroe on "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!") or when the subject matter strays to something more comfortably suggestive ...

| | Iced Earth Something Wicked This Way Comes CD (1998) Bonus Tracks; Limited Edition
Oh Lonesome Me
$13.79 Released in 1998, Something Wicked This Way Comes offers Iced Earth virtually replicating their previous effort, The Dark Saga, but with somewhat less inspired results. "Burning Times," "Stand Alone," and "My Own Savior" are fine slabs of the classic metal/thrash metal combination the band has become known for, but they lack the spark of yesteryear. "1776" is a humdrum instrumental in the Iron Maiden mold, and while "Watching Over Me" and "Consequences" show the band breaking new melodic ...
