2 LPs on 1 CD: BOUQUET (1959)/BOUQUET OF LOVE (1962). Includes liner notes by Mark Marymont. In 1999, Collectables released Bouquet/Bouquet of Love, which contained two complete albums -- Bouquet (1959, originally released on Columbia) and Bouquet of Love (1962, originally released on Columbia) -- by Percy Faith on one compact disc. ~ Jason Birchmeier Possibly Percy Faith's two most famous LPs other than A SUMMER PLACE, 1959's BOUQUET and the 1961 sequel BOUQUET OF LOVE are quintessential Faith. Lushly orchestrated, with Faith's trademark keening strings, these two albums epitomize orchestral easy listening music. The song selection is heavy on the standards, including Johnny Mercer's "Laura," "The Song from Moulin Rouge," "Ebb Tide," Rodgers and Hart's "Blue Moon" and "Stella By Starlight." While the quality of the remastering job is very good, unfortunately, three songs were excised from BOUQUET OF LOVE for space considerations. The Classic Sound of the Percy Faith Strings Returns! Canadian-born Percy Faith recorded three beautiful albums of strictly string music, and the first two are heard on this cd. Faith proves why he was a superb writer for string orchestra, and in fact, influenced another Canadian-born orchestra leader, Robert Farnon, in his early years. Of the two, my favourite is Bouquet of Love, although due to space restrictions, three tracks from the original album had to be deleted here. That included a Faith original, Music Until Midnight, which is a real shame. But overall, this is mood music at its finest, and a perfect tonic after a long hard day. Bouquet/Bouquet Of Love
$10.55 Personnel includes: Charlie May (vocals, tenor saxophone); Gaylord Jones (arranger); Bill Ramsay, Tracy Knoop (alto saxophone); Jim Coile, Saul Cline (tenor saxophone); Greg Metcalf (baritone saxophone); Randy Lintott, Jay Roulston (trumpet); Gary Shutes, Dan Marcus (trombone); John Hansen (piano); Dave Peterson (guitar); Larry Holloway (bass); Greg Williamson (drums). Hearing this fine aggregation from the very jazz-active Northwest section of the U.S. evokes many pleasant images. The medley of "Nearness of You" and "I Only Have Eyes for You" recalls a soft summer evening with the big band playing on an outdoor bandstand for swaying dancers at a small town's annual July 4th celebration. (The band uses the medley device quite effectively with some distinctive combinations of tunes.) At other times, there's the annual college prom when the band swings ...
